As the February 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest officially wraps up today, March 2, gamers are walking away with massive wishlists and plenty of new obsessions. The digital event provided free access to over 3,000 playable demos, acting as a vital platform for developers to gather feedback and for players to discover their next favorite titles. Among the biggest highlights of the week were a highly addictive coin-pushing deckbuilder, a turn-based spin-off of a massive hit, and a completely new, casual take on one of gaming's most beloved dark fantasy franchises.
Leading the conversation is Reigns: The Witcher, which officially launched on February 25 for $6 across Steam, Android, and iOS. Developed by Nerial in partnership with CD Projekt Red, this narrative-focused game swaps traditional open-world action for a simple swipe-left or swipe-right decision mechanic, all told through the dramatic perspective of the bard Dandelion. Meanwhile, festival players found themselves losing hours to Raccoin, a coin-pushing roguelike deckbuilder in the vein of Balatro. Launching on March 31 from Playstack, the game challenges players to score points by electrifying coins, creating cyclones, and building massive synergies.
Another dominant force was Vampire Crawlers, a turn-based deckbuilder roguelite spin-off from the creators of Vampire Survivors. Moving away from passive firing, players navigate 90s-style first-person mazes and strategically play mana-costing cards to battle enemies, proving that the Vampire Survivors universe still has plenty of fresh tricks up its sleeve, as per Engadget.

Top Upcoming Indie Game Releases & Demos to Watch
For those looking for visually stunning or action-packed adventures, the festival did not disappoint. The Eternal Life of Goldman stood out as a gorgeous, hand-drawn platformer where players use an elderly gentleman's cane to hook onto rings and pogo across challenging, 75-to-90-minute demo levels. On the bloodier side, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando delivered a rough-but-fun co-op shooter experience reminiscent of Left 4 Dead.
Beyond the demos, the indie space is celebrating several major launches and updates right now. The adorable, tethered-penguin co-op platformer Bread and Fred has finally landed on Xbox and PlayStation consoles with a launch discount, while the side-scrolling RPG brawler Towerborne just hit its 1.0 release with a full offline campaign and fresh biomes.

Stardew Valley Updates & Future Indie Showcases
For puzzle fans, Dice A Million is currently racking up ridiculous scores on Game Pass, challenging players to find synergies between dice and rings to roll a million points in a single go. In celebration of its incredible 10th anniversary, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barrone revealed that the upcoming 1.7 update will add Sandy and Clint as marriage candidates, alongside news of a special one-night orchestral performance at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre this October.
Finally, fans of the voxel-based heist game Teardown can look forward to a massive 12-player co-op update dropping on Steam on March 12. Looking slightly further ahead, Minimap's first indie showcase put several intriguing titles on our radar. The broadcast highlighted the cozy thrift-store sim Thrifty Business, the jump-scare-free anomaly-hunting game Please, Watch The Artwork, the early-2000s psychological horror Lily’s World XD, and the co-op Arctic survival adventure Ikuma - The Frozen Compass.

While the 1930s cartoon-inspired shooter Mouse: P.I. for Hire has seen a slight delay to April 16 for extra polish, other titles are just around the corner. The Bloodborne-inspired 2D pixel art Soulslike Tombwater arrives on March 31, bringing seven playable classes and eldritch horrors to a Western setting. Rounding out the horizon is Solarpunk, an upcoming co-op game that promises a soothing blend of base-building, renewable energy automation, and airship exploration across floating islands later this year.
