  • PlayStation is ending PC ports for future single-player games to keep them strictly console-exclusive.
  • Live-service and multiplayer titles will remain exceptions and continue releasing on PC.
  • The shift protects hardware value following declining commercial returns from recent PC releases.

PlayStation's era of bringing its beloved single-player narrative games to PC is officially over. In a recent town hall meeting, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed to staff that future story-driven, single-player titles will remain strictly exclusive to PlayStation consoles. This move officially reverses several years of an initiative that saw Sony increasingly porting its first-party cinematic hits to computer screens after their initial console launch.

This internal confirmation means highly anticipated titles like the Ghost of Tsushima sequel Ghost of Yotei, Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine, and Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with the recently released Saros, will stay locked to the PlayStation 5. It is the final nail in the coffin for PlayStation's short-lived PC parity era. During that brief window, the company brought numerous single-player titles to PC, including God of War (2018), God of War Ragnarok, Returnal, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, The Last of Us Part I Remake, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered

The extensive list of ports also featured Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Days Gone, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, LEGO Horizon Adventures, and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.

A group of futuristic cybernetic soldiers in colorful armor engage in a tactical firefight within a swampy, sun-drenched jungle on the planet Tau Ceti IV from the game Marathon. Light streaks through dense trees in the background, illuminating massive alien structures in the distance while the soldiers navigate the shallow water.

Multi-Platform Releases for Multiplayer Games

There is, however, a notable exception to this new mandate. Multiplayer and live-service games will continue to receive multi-platform releases. Bungie's extraction shooter Marathon, the hit shooter Helldivers 2, and Guerilla Games' upcoming Horizon Hunters Gathering will still make their way to PC, alongside various third-party titles. A Bloomberg report back in March 2026 first pointed to this strategic rollback, noting that Sony was moving away from porting its first-party narrative games, and today's town hall directly corroborated those earlier whispers.

As for why PlayStation is pulling the plug on its PC push, reports indicate it comes down to simple commercial returns. While the initial batch of PC ports performed exceptionally well, sales for subsequent releases steadily declined. Ultimately, PlayStation's leadership felt the juice simply was not worth the squeeze, as per Wccftech.

Sony could have potentially boosted sales by releasing games on PC and PlayStation simultaneously with day-and-date launches, but doing so would have inherently devalued their own hardware. If players could enjoy the latest blockbuster on their computer on launch day, there would be little reason to invest in a PS5 or the inevitable PS6.

By locking these cinematic experiences exclusively to their own hardware, Sony is making a deliberate tradeoff to protect the value of the PlayStation platform over chasing incremental PC sales. For PC gamers, this shift dramatically limits access to some of the industry's most acclaimed games unless they are willing to cross the aisle and purchase the hardware. Following the most recent console price hike this past April, the minimum cost to experience these signature PlayStation narratives now stands at a hefty $599.99.
