Microsoft is marking Xbox's 25th anniversary with a new limited-edition console and controller inspired by the brand's original hardware. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition and Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition were unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 and will launch in select markets in November 2026.

The anniversary collection revives Xbox's signature OG Green aesthetic through a translucent design that references the original 2001 console. The Series X25 retains the standard Xbox Series X specifications, including 1 terabyte (TB) of SSD storage, while adding anniversary-themed hardware details and branding.

Xbox Series X25 Brings Original Xbox Design Back

"For the first time, we're bringing a translucent design to Xbox Series X, drawing inspiration from the original Xbox and OG Green so many players remember," Xbox Vice President (VP) of Next Generation, Jason Ronald, noted.

The console features a green-lit Xbox logo, a 25th Anniversary emblem on the front, and several design elements intended to celebrate Xbox's history. Microsoft indicated that hidden details are included throughout the hardware as a tribute to the community that helped build the platform over the past quarter-century.

Alongside the console, Microsoft introduced the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition. The controller uses the same translucent green finish and incorporates references to earlier Xbox hardware, including the original ABXY button colors and bumpers inspired by the black-and-white buttons found on the original “Duke” controller. Its rear shell and battery door are fully transparent, revealing the classic Xbox logo inside.

Anniversary Collection Expands Xbox's Year-Long Celebration

Microsoft confirmed that the console and controller will be sold together as a limited-edition collection in November 2026, while the controller will also be available separately. The reveal trailer noted that the standalone controller is scheduled to arrive in October 2026.

However, pricing and pre-order details have not yet been announced.

The hardware launch is part of Xbox's broader 25th anniversary campaign, which includes FanFest events in cities such as London, Seattle, Tokyo, Sydney, Cologne, Toronto, and Mexico City, as well as digital wallpapers, legacy content, and other community activities.

Separately, Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, announced during the Xbox Games Showcase that attendees with FAN badges would receive free Xbox Series X25 consoles. The giveaway was later highlighted in reports from the event and social media posts shared following the presentation.
