  • Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, has not confirmed Elder Scrolls VI exclusivity.
  • Project Helix will focus on performance, affordability, and multiple devices.
  • Xbox continues balancing exclusive games with Game Pass and broader access.

Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, has refused to confirm whether The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox console exclusive, leaving Microsoft’s platform strategy for one of Bethesda’s biggest upcoming games unresolved. During an interview with BBC’s Laura Cress at Gamescom 2026, Sharma said, “Every platform needs some form of exclusive experiences and content,” while pointing to Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution as examples.

When specifically asked about The Elder Scrolls VI, Sharma did not commit to an Xbox-only release, instead replying with, “It’s a beautiful game.” She said exclusivity decisions must be balanced against the health of the business, suggesting Microsoft is evaluating individual releases rather than applying one platform policy across its portfolio.

Project Helix Targets a More Flexible Xbox Hardware Future

The question comes as Microsoft prepares Project Helix and attempts to strengthen Xbox after a difficult current generation. Sharma described Helix as a “family of devices” and indicated that the next generation will support both console and PC games. She also identified affordability and hardware efficiency as priorities, as rising component costs, partly driven by AI demand, put pressure on the industry.

Microsoft is simultaneously changing how players access existing games.

Xbox has announced a program allowing supported physical games to receive digital entitlements, starting with thousands of titles for Xbox Insiders on Aug 31, 2026. The initiative is designed to carry existing libraries across future hardware while retaining the functionality of physical discs.

Xbox Wants More Players Without Abandoning Exclusives

Sharma stated that Xbox has more than 100M players and intends to maintain its content investment, with an ambition to reach a billion players. She also argued that players will access Xbox through different devices and business models rather than a single route.

That makes The Elder Scrolls VI a significant test for Xbox’s strategy.

Since Microsoft is keeping some titles exclusive, its wider ecosystem continues to embrace multiplatform access. Sega is also expanding its partnership with Xbox Game Pass, bringing games such as Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage to the service in September 2026. Keeping The Elder Scrolls VI exclusive could strengthen Xbox hardware, while releasing it elsewhere would expand its potential audience.

For now, Microsoft has provided no definitive answer, leaving the game’s eventual console lineup open.
