Xiaomi has been improving itself continuously over the years, and they just rolled out a gaming feature that could get PC gamers rather curious. In its latest version, Xiaomi has launched a Xiaomi Game Center app, which has a feature that lets users run Steam games locally on their Xiaomi phones. This updated feature introduces an improved PC game emulation experience and is already available in the Redmi K90 series.
Xiaomi Latest Feature Details that Makes PC Games Accessible
Even though emulation tools like GameHub and Winlator are already well-liked, Xiaomi's internal emulation solution is starting to change the Android gaming community. This emulation, called the WinPlay Engine, is built specially for launching Windows PC games on Android or Android-based devices.
Xiaomi emphasized that WinPlay Engine caused only a 2.9% of GPU performance loss on tested devices, including the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 tablet. This indicates that the WinPlay Engine is much more efficient than others in this field.
Additionally, the company reported that WinPlay also optimizes performance, graphics, memory latency, and other aspects by using Xiaomi's underlying architecture, HyperCore (kernel/virtualization platform).
Which PC Games are Currently Playable on Xiaomi?
At the moment, the feature currently supports three well-known titles, Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Stardew Valley, highlighting the high potential of the WinPlay Engine. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has also added several improvements to the Game Center app, including the addition of an achievement system and cloud-save synchronization, which helps gamers to switch devices without losing their progress.
Xiaomi has also improved its controller capability, supporting popular gamepads. The app also introduced new on-screen controls for those who do not have external controllers. These new on-screen controls reportedly adapt to short and long presses as and when needed in various games.
Nevertheless, REDMI's Product Manager, Sun Cun, in an official announcement on Weibo, highlighted that the Steam-local play support is still in an experimental stage; therefore, users may encounter a few issues along the way. However, Sun reassured that the team is actively trying to solve the issues to provide the consumers the best possible experience. If Xiaomi’s updates prove successful, then it could become one of the easiest ways to access PC games directly on smartphones.
