Farlight Games will launch a crossover event between AFK Journey and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End on May 1, 2026, the publisher confirmed with a new trailer release. The collaboration introduces both Frieren and Himmel from the anime as playable characters, available via logging into the event or in-game Invite Letters.
The AFK Journey x Frieren crossover event marks AFK Journey's third major IP collaboration, after Fairy Tail in May 2025 and Delicious in Dungeon in November 2025. The collaboration will also mark the first-ever RPG collaboration for the hit Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime, which recently released its second season.
The timing of the Frieren crossover also reflects a deliberate IP strategy following the momentum created by the season 2 finale and announcement of Frieren season 3 for October 2027. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga has also surpassed 35M copies in cumulative circulation, with the webnovel ranking atop the KADOKAWA's BookWalker eBook store ranks.
Inside the AFK Journey x Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Crossover Event
The crossover features an original in-game storyline with Frieren and Himmel, where they assist locals in resolving a regional crisis. They arrived in Cedartown within the Duchy of Whiteridge in Esperia within AFK Journey, after being transported through a temporal rift while traveling to the Demon King's Castle.
The official trailer showcases both characters in AFK Journey's 3D art style, featuring Frieren in magic-casting animations and Himmel in close-combat sequences. The AFK Journey x Frieren crossover reflects the growing trend of anime collaborations as a central content update across the gacha RPG genre.
On other hand, AFK Journey crossed $150M in mobile player spending within a month of its Asian market launch, giving Farlight the financial footing to pursue premium IP deals. Each anime-gaming collaboration functions as a user acquisition event with built-in audience targeting.
