Jujutsu Kaisen S3 Overtakes Frieren as Japan's Top Netflix Show
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 hits No. 1 on Netflix Japan, dethroning Frieren as the intense "Culling Game" arc drives record-breaking viewership and engagement.
Highlights
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 dethrones Frieren as the No. 1 anime on Netflix Japan.
- The "Culling Game" arc fuels a massive surge in streaming hours and global demand.
- Jujutsu Kaisen surpasses 150 million manga copies, solidifying its industry dominance.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Part 1 has replaced Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 at the top of Netflix Japan's viewership charts, ending the latter's weeks-long run in first place.
The shift comes as Jujutsu Kaisen enters its "Culling Game" arc, with six episodes released and six more scheduled over the next six weeks. Frieren dropped to second place, followed by Hell's Paradise Season 2 Reunion, Oshi no Ko Season 3, and Silent Truth. Anime titles took five of the top 10 positions, outperforming live-action series like Solo Escape Island Season 5 and Boyfriend Season 2.

Netflix Japan Winter 2026 Anime Rankings Shift
The viewership gap between the two shows was narrow, according to Netflix Japan data. Frieren, which recently helped its source manga reach 35 million copies in circulation, maintains strong retention with its slower-paced storytelling. But Jujutsu Kaisen's action-driven narrative has drawn larger total streaming hours.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga has surpassed 150 million copies in circulation, overtaking Attack on Titan. Parrot Analytics previously identified the series as the world's most in-demand animated TV show, with demand 128 times higher than the average series.
Both shows are part of Netflix's 2026 anime expansion, which has filled five of its top 10 spots in Japan with animated content since January.
