Chainsaw Man & Demon Slayer Among 2026 Harvey Awards Manga Nods

Manga titles including Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, and One Piece earned nominations in the Best Adaptation category in the Harvey Awards 2026. Manga secured nominations in two separate Harvey Awards categories this year, highlighting manga’s influence within the American comics industry.

The Harvey Awards announced its nominees for the 2026 cohort in early July, naming six titles to the Best Manga category and five manga-based projects among the ten Best Adaptation from Comic Book/Graphic Novel nominees.

Founded in 1988 and named after cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman of MAD! fame, the Harveys span seven categories, including Book of the Year, Best Children’s Book, Best International Book, and Best Adaptation. Unlike the Eisner Awards, which rely on a broader judging pool, Harvey nominees and winners are selected exclusively by comics professionals, giving the results added weight within the industry.

Announcing Harvey Awards’ 2026 slate, the co-chair Nellie Kurtzman said the nominees represent works that “entertain you, challenge you, surprise you, and stick with you long after the last page.” 

Harvey’s  Best Manga field is filled with independent and arthouse titles, including Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki's Billy Bat and director Rintarō’s My Life in 24 Frames per Second.  Rintaro's manga is also nominated for the Eisner Award in the Best Graphic Memoir category.

Franchise manga surfaced in the Best Adaptation category with Crunchyroll and Sony’s Chainsaw Man Reze Arc, My Hero Academia Final Season, Netflix's One Piece live-action season 2, among others.

In the Best Adaptation category, manga compete against non-manga contenders including The Boys, Invincible, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Harvey Awards co-chair Chip Mosher said the manga nominees show “why manga remains one of the most dynamic forces in global publishing.” Manga sales in U.S. comic stores climbed 33.1% in 2025 as well, according to point-of-sale data reported by ICv2. 

Voting for the nominated manga and comics has already started and is scheduled to end on Aug 28. Similar to the 2025 edition, Harvey Awards 2026 will take place on Oct 9, during New York Comic Con, at the Javits Center.
