Crunchyroll Raises Subscription Prices Across All Tiers in the US
Anime streaming platform now updates pricing in the US market after halting free ad-supported streaming
Highlights
- Crunchyroll subscription prices in the U.S. have increased by $2 across all tiers.
- The new pricing model starts from Feb 2, 2026, for new subscribers.
- The move aligns Crunchyroll with broader streaming industry trends.
Crunchyroll has announced a $2 USD increase in subscription prices across all of its membership tiers in the United States, starting from Feb 2, 2026. The revised rates will take effect on existing subscriptions from March 4, 2026, for the Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan tiers.
Under the new structure, the Fan tier will rise from $7.99 to $9.99 per month, the Mega Fan plan from $11.99 to $13.99, and the Ultimate Fan tier from $15.99 to $17.99. It’s Crunchyroll’s first comprehensive pricing update in several years.
Previously, the streamer increased the subscription price for Fan Tier, from $6.95 to $7.99, back in 2019. It increased the subscription fees for the Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan plans in 2024, as well.
Along with the updated subscription price, Crunchyroll also announced that the Fan Tier will now facilitate downloading and offline viewing for one device. Additionally, the ultimate Fan Annual Plan for $66.99 will offer an effective price of $5.58 per month, if paid annually for the subscription.
Crunchyroll's Pricing Strategy and Industry Context
While Crunchyroll’s official post didn’t indicate any reason for the increase in pricing, it’s likely due to the rising licensing and production costs of anime. The pressure from competition for exclusive rights to anime IP has also increased.
Multiple streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV, have increased subscription fees in 2025 for the US market. Netflix raised its standard ad-free plan by $2.50, while both Disney+ and Apple TV increased their subscription fees by $3.
Crunchyroll’s latest adjustment reflects this industry shift towards generating higher average revenue per user. This is intended towards competing with rival streaming platforms, while maintaining a higher quality production pipeline.
Crunchyroll has also introduced some user-friendly features on its streaming platform. It now facilitates multiple profiles, including a Teen profiles feature and PIN protection, along with skipping Intro and Outro, and expanded device compatibility.
Recently, in December 2025, the streaming platform also ended its ad-supported streaming feature, resembling other traditional OTTs like Netflix and Prime Video, which don’t include any free-streaming tier. The streaming service, currently home to more than 2K anime series and films, will now operate as a fully paid platform.
