Highlights

  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle will launch on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan on July 29.
  • The release features limited and standard editions, with collector-focused packaging and bonus content.
  • The strategy reflects anime’s reliance on Blu-ray revenue and staggered distribution.

The Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Blu-ray and DVD release has been scheduled for July 29 in Japan, with pre-orders starting from April 18, 12:00 JST. The announcement, confirmed via the official anime X account on April 17, will mark the next phase in the film’s commercial lifecycle following its over $700 million USD theatrical run.

The film, formally titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, continues the studio-led strategy of staggered distribution windows across theatrical and physical media distribution. While no confirmed Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle OTT release date has been disclosed, industry patterns suggest streaming availability might follow the Blu-ray and DVD window.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Blu-ray & DVD release will have two different editions, limited and standard. The limited edition, which includes illustrated packaging by Akira Matsushima, is priced at ¥9.9K (~$63) for DVD and ¥11K (~$70) for Blu-ray.

The limited Blu-ray and DVD versions will get a storage box featuring Tanjiro and Giyu from the Demon Slayer franchise, a digipak featuring three main battle scenes from the Infinity Castle movie, and bonus materials. The standard edition, which does not have any extra features, will be priced at ¥4.95K (~$32) for Blu-ray and ¥4.4K (~$28) for DVD.

The Blu-ray and DVD versions are only coming for the Japanese market with a special screening event, reflecting exclusivity and staggered rollout. The production committee has not announced an international release, as of yet.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Blu-ray and DVD Release Highlights Physical Media Strategy

As mentioned, the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Blu-ray and DVD release will come with exclusive content, an industry tactic designed to drive collector demand and maximize per-unit revenue. The Demon Slayer production committee used similar tactics for the previous movie, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

The physical media strategy follows a commercial logic. Japan remains one of the few major markets where Blu-ray sales contribute significantly to anime’s revenue cycle. According to Intelmarket Research,  the global Blu-Ray player market is also growing, with a 6.3% CAGR.

On the other hand, limited edition Blu-Ray releases and special box sets have seen 12% year-over-year growth, with anime contributing significantly to the growth. The production committee is trying to tap into this market with the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Blu-ray and DVD release. However, at the same time, global audiences continue to prioritize digital access.
