K-pop giants HYBE and YG Entertainment have finalized a contract renewal for YG PLUS, extending their domestic distribution deal for an eighth consecutive year. As per Sports Kyunghyang, the agreement was signed on May 19, 2026, confirming that YG PLUS will continue to oversee domestic album, digital music distribution, logistics, and content marketing for all HYBE labels.
Although specific financial terms and contract durations were not made public, the executives of both labels emphasized the strategic value of this renewal. YG PLUS CEO Choi Seong-jun told Sports Kyunghyang that the collaboration remains essential to blend increased capacities while enhancing the transnational commercial activity of K-pop content. Simultaneously, Yoo Dong-ju, head of HYBE Music Group APAC, added that they will “continue close cooperation to effectively deliver the music of HYBE Music Group artists to domestic fans”.
HYBE and YG’s Business History
The corporate relationship dates back to 2021, when YG Entertainment via YG PLUS first signed a distribution deal with HYBE, which was then operating as Big Hit Entertainment. According to a Billboard report, HYBE potentially invested ₩70 billion into this YG Entertainment subsidiary. Reportedly, ₩70B amounted to $63M USD in 2021, however, it is worth about $48M based on the current exchange rate.
The HYBE-YG deal aimed to push for commercial synergy by harnessing artists’ intellectual property across various ventures. Since that original agreement, YG PLUS has reportedly expanded its operational footprint in a significant manner, securing direct contracts with global music platforms, all while implementing targeted marketing campaigns across more than 190 countries.

HYBE and YG Reshaped K-pop Live Streaming Ecosystem?
The operational ties between these historic rivals expand far beyond basic distribution logistics. This inter-agency coordination similarly evolved the industry's digital live-streaming framework. On February 10, 2021, another critical alignment took place when Universal Music Group and YG Entertainment joined as investors in KBYK Live.
KBYK Live was initially a joint venture originally formed in 2020 by Big Hit and Kiswe, which launched VenewLive, an ambitious live-streaming platform. While VenewLive was eventually fully absorbed into the expanding Weverse ecosystem, the proprietary technology reportedly exists even today. That shared technology now boosts the live performances transmitted virtually under Weverse Concerts, serving as the core foundation for the platform's broader digital ecosystem, ultimately institutionalizing the commercial power of global fandom under a single umbrella of Weverse.
