Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 30 Leads BookScan Adult Graphic Novels List
Gege Akutami’s finale volume heads Circana BookScan’s May rankings as manga dominates the U.S. adult graphic novel market.
Highlights
- Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 30 topped Circana BookScan’s May 2026 Adult Graphic Novels chart.
- The series placed six volumes in the Top 20 rankings, while other major manga titles also secured strong positions.
- The latest sales data highlights manga’s continued growth in North America.
Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 30 has claimed the top spot on the Circana Bookscan Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels chart for May 2026. The final volume displaced Vol. 29, which had held the top spot for three straight months, according to ICv2.
The franchise did more than secure the top position. Six Jujutsu Kaisen volumes appeared in the Top 20 list, including volumes 29, 28, and the long-running Vol. 1. The list covers U.S. sales from May 3 to 30.
The Bookscan Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels list charts 15 manga volumes spanning newer and older franchises, including Witch Hat Atelier, Gachiakuta, Kagurabachi, and Demon Slayer. Other five places were secured by four volumes of Invincible and Matt Dinniman’s graphic novel franchise Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Beyond Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 30: Newer Manga Franchises Also Dominate U.S. Rankings
Jujutsu Kaisen manga has been dominant in the U.S. market for a long time; Gege Akutami’s franchise (Vol. 29) also topped BookScan’s Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels list for the year 2025. Previously, Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 29 appeared on the New York Times’ monthly Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list for May 2026 as well.
The current popular manga, Witch Hat Atelier, appeared twice on BookScan’s May best-seller list. Kamome Shirahama’s new Grimoire Edition hardcover ranked at No. 5, and the standard Vol. 1 appeared at No. 8 on the list.
Newer manga franchises such as Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta Vol. 1 (No. 6) and Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi Vol. 7 (No. 7) also placed among the top 10. Gachiakuta’s first volume was ranked fourth on BookScan Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels for April 2026.
Apart from Gachiakuta, several titles returned from April’s chart: One Piece Omnibus Edition Vol.1, The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 7, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol. 1. Mokumokuren’s The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 1 also made the list at No. 15.
The latest results highlight manga’s sustained popularity in the U.S. graphic novel market. BookScan’s May chart suggests Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending hasn’t slowed reader demand. Even the first volume maintains its position in the best-selling charts. On the other hand, the anime adaptation’s fourth season is in production at MAPPA, keeping its visibility strong across the global manga and anime industries.
