  • The teaser illustrations hint at crucial character moments and Naruto’s path to becoming Hokage.
  • PROJECT RASENGAN brings new developments across the Naruto franchise.

Masashi Kishimoto’s new Naruto manga, Shadow Rising, was announced during the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” special stage at New York Comic Con (NYCC) on Oct 10, 2026. The teaser featured illustrations of Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sakura.

More details about the new manga are expected at Jump Festa 2027.

What Does the Naruto Shadow Rising Teaser Reveal?

The teaser showed the six previous Hokage overlooking the Hidden Leaf Village, followed by the Seventh Hokage monument under construction. Other illustrations featured Naruto holding a Hokage hat, Sasuke standing alone, Kakashi smiling, Sakura looking affectionately at a baby, and Naruto clashing with Sasuke.

These images have led to speculation that the manga takes place between The Last: Naruto the Movie and Naruto becoming the Seventh Hokage. The official announcement has not confirmed the timeline, publication date, plot, or chapter count.

PROJECT RASENGAN Expands Naruto Across Anime, Games, and More

The manga reveal formed part of PROJECT RASENGAN, which connects the franchise’s manga, anime, games, and card game.

The NYCC presentation also announced NARUTO x NINKŪ, a four-episode anime crossover supervised by Kishimoto and NINKŪ creator Koji Kiriyama. Noriyuki Abe will direct, with Tetsuya Nishio serving as character designer and chief animation director.

The story follows Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura on a mission assigned by Kakashi. Naruto becomes acting leader before Team 7 gets lost in another world and encounters Fūsuke, a boy with a frog-like face.

The franchise also confirmed a worldwide release for the Naruto Mobile battle-action game, with more information forthcoming. The Naruto Card Game launches worldwide in June 2027 with three starter decks and its first booster pack. In-store demo events begin in early 2027.

From NYCC to Jump Festa: What’s Ahead for Naruto

Jump Festa 2027 takes place at Makuhari Messe on Dec 19 and 20, from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is free, but preregistration through the Jump NAVI app is required for visitors of elementary-school age and older.

The NYCC presentation is available on demand through the official Naruto/Boruto YouTube channel.

It included updates on the new Naruto TV anime limited series and a message from live-action film director, Destin Daniel Cretton, who stated the production was approaching Kishimoto’s characters and relationships “with a lot of care.” He also added that the team was working on the film and would share more information soon.

The announcements extend Naruto beyond its original manga, building on the franchise’s expansion through Boruto and anniversary anime projects. The new manga and upcoming games could help sustain interest across generations of fans.
