Highlights

  • KPop Demon Hunters has set a new Netflix record with 52 consecutive weeks in the Global Top 10 Films (English) chart.
  • The animated hit has amassed more than 639.3M views and over one billion viewing hours.

KPop Demon Hunters has reached a new streaming record as it celebrates its first anniversary: 52 consecutive weeks in the platform’s Global Top 10 Films (English) chart. The Sony Pictures Animation (SPA) film, which premiered June 20, 2025, will complete the milestone for the week ending June 21, 2026.

This is a record that no Netflix film has ever achieved before. The previous record for consecutive weeks across any category was 20 weeks, set by South Korean drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 1 on the Non-English TV chart.

The new update, KPop Demon Hunters’ Netflix record of 52 weeks, is more than double any comparable benchmark on the platform. The SPA animated film has also generated approximately 1.07B viewing hours with 639.3M completed views, according to What’s on Netflix.

The movie had recorded 325.1M views, generating 541.8M viewing hours, within only 91 days on the platform. Netflix recently informed that KPop Demon Hunters has surpassed 600M global views, as of mid-June 2026. As of the week ending June 14, it held the sixth position in the Top 10 Films chart.

Netflix and Sony Behind KPop Demon Hunters’ Netflix Record of 52-Week Streak

Behind KPop Demon Hunters’ 52-week Netflix record lies Netflix and Sony’s continuous merchandising and audience engagement measures following its breakout success in 2025. In a May 17 interview, director Maggie Kang disclosed how SPA has identified KPop Demon Hunters franchise potential and treated the property accordingly from the beginning.

The franchise has expanded into merchandise lines with toy companies Hasbro, Funko, and LEGO, while expanding into apparel with brands such as ZARA, GAP, and Old Navy. KPop Demon Hunters also received a comic box-set, and is currently confirmed for a sequel, as well.

Netflix and SPA have also undertaken region-specific collaborations, live events, and merchandising initiatives to maintain the film’s global visibility. More importantly, Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters swept the 2026 award season with multiple recognitions across Academy Awards, Grammys, Annie Awards, Critics' Choice, and the like.

Netflix and Sony are also treating the upcoming KPop Demon Hunters' one-year anniversary as a franchise activation rather than a victory lap. The film returns to theaters across the United States this week for special anniversary screenings.

International screenings are also confirmed in other regions, such as South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia. On June 20, the official Netflix TikTok account will host a nine-hour global watch party, with appearances from special guests and other surprises.

The approach mirrors franchise-building efforts seen with major animation properties that extend into music, consumer products, and live events. Netflix and AEG Presents announced a global concert tour in May 2026, with performances from real-life HUNTR/X, KPop Demon Hunters’ fictional girl group.
