Netflix's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Sets Fall 2026 Release

Netflix confirmed on June 28 that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will premiere in Fall 2026, marking the return of the acclaimed anime based on the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The announcement arrived alongside a key visual introducing the show’s four new lead characters.

Studio Trigger returns to animate the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel under CD Projekt Red’s supervision, with a new cast and plotline. A teaser was unveiled at Anime Expo 2026, alongside production details and new characters.

The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime premiered in September 2022, focusing on David Martinez and the underworld of Night City, which functions as the prequel to the original game. Three years after Edgerunners became one of Netflix’s most acclaimed anime originals, the sequel was announced in 2025.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Production

As per CD Projekt Red, Kai Ikarashi, an animation director and storyboard artist in one episode (Ep 6) of the original anime, will make his directorial debut with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Ichigo Kanno, known for directing the Metallic Child video game’s animated trailer, serves as lead character designer.

Hugo and Ringo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor and Studio Trigger CEO Masahiko Otsuka, who co-wrote and were an assistant director for the first season, have also returned for the sequel. Following the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 announcement in July 2025, Sztybor posted on X, stating, “I’m writing, producing and showrunning so be prepared for sadness!! ”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be a 10-episode season, similar to the previous installment. The show is described on the official site as “a raw, realistic take on the most dangerous city of the dark future.”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Plot: What We Know so Far

According to the official synopsis, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 tells a standalone story of redemption and revenge, set within the world of Cyberpunk 2077. However, a detailed storyline has not been revealed.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will focus on new characters. The new cast includes Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner living in the shadow of his former glory, and D, a Snake Nation netrunner hunting his clan’s killer.

The protagonist, Roman Carax, was unveiled on June 27. Carax is a young cinephile obsessed with documenting others’ lives. The remaining character is Talia Yang, a corpo-raised woman drawn toward crime.

While Netflix has unveiled key art featuring the new protagonists, the studio has not yet announced the full voice cast or character lineup. The main announcement is scheduled for June 29 with official Teaser 2, ahead of an Anime Expo panel, set on July 3.

Where to Watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide sometime in the fall of 2026.  The streamer has not announced a specific date yet. 

The first season launched with multilingual options, including Japanese audio and an English dub. Language details have not been fully revealed for Edgerunners 2; the previous series currently has multiple dubbed and subbed versions, including French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and several other languages. 

The announcement reinforces CD Projekt Red’s continued expansion of the Cyberpunk franchise beyond video games. The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners earned critical acclaim, won Anime of the Year at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and helped revive interest in Cyberpunk 2077. 

The first Edgerunners anime helped the game get 20M copies sold within weeks of its September 2022 debut and the Edgerunners update. Following the anime’s release, Cyberpunk 2077 players increased by 200%, according to Steam Charts. 

The game recorded around 87.5K concurrent players on June 28, one day prior to the Edgerunners 2 trailer on June 29. For CD Projekt, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime is not only an IP expansion strategy, but a way to bring players back to Night City years after launch. Cyberpunk 2, previously codenamed Orion, is currently in development at CD Projekt Red, as well.
