Highlights
- Spotify launched its new “Offline to Online” K-pop strategy with a special LE SSERAFIM live event in Seoul.
- The streaming giant had previously hosted events with Stray Kids and has had a flagship playlist fully dedicated to K-pop since 2014, marking Spotify’s first K-pop-oriented move.
- Spotify says global K-pop streams have grown more than 570-fold since 2014, with the genre soon integrating into mainstream global pop.
Spotify is expanding its K-pop playbook; the streaming app aims to capitalize on the explosive growth of the genre by turning its listening experience into something tangible via pop-up events and live performances. According to a report by Korea JoongAng Daily, Spotify is all set to fully implement its latest “Offline to Online” (O2O) strategy to transform intimate fan experiences into digital content for global audiences.
Spotify Launches O2O Strategy With Le Sserafim Event
The initial phase of this rollout began this Thursday evening (May 21, 2026) with “Spotify X Le Sserafim: Pure Flowers Live,” which was staged at the Seosomun Shrine History Museum in central Seoul. The collaborative event happened exactly a day before the release of the girl group’s second full-length album, Pureflow pt.1.
“Tonight’s performances will travel far beyond Seoul through Spotify. [To] around the world. And that’s what, really, Spotify is about — helping artists connect with new audiences,” said John Han (Head of Music, Spotify South Korea) at a media session at the company’s southern Seoul office before the performance.
The Spotify executive referred to the Le Sserafim event as a celebration of its dedicated fandom, also known as Fearnots, and the realization of a growth journey that has been taking place for over a decade. During the press conference, Han reportedly also talked about broadcasting live performances and talk sessions exclusively on the app, with which Spotify aims to expand the reach of such events far beyond the physical limits of the venue.
How Spotify Built Its Global K-pop Footprint Since 2014?
Spotify’s digital pivot comes after it spent years of localized marketing, anchoring its regional presence in South Korea Via physical hubs like “Spotify House Seoul” and “Spotify STAYdium,” a pop-up experience launched along with the JYP boy band Stray Kids. Under this O2O initiative, the streaming giant will be actively pushing these temporary, in-person moments into scalable videos and digital media to move broader digital participation amongst audiences. As per Korea JoongAng Daily, while speaking on the same, the Spotify South Korea Head said, “Bringing those [offline] moments onto Spotify, then expanding them globally through video and content, has become a core part of how we support Korean artists today.”

Spotify Korea Head Says K-pop is Becoming More Mainstream
Han also cited the example of the 2014 launch of “K-pop Daebak,” the platform’s first global flagship playlist, highlighting that the platform had recognized the global potential of the genre long before it became a worldwide phenomenon. According to him, this early positioning drove a massive listening surge later in the years, with yearly global K-pop streams on Spotify growing more than 570-fold between 2014 and 2025.
Moving forward, Han predicts that the boundaries between K-pop and the global pop market will eventually blur entirely. Addressing whether the genre will face a niche future or broader expansion, Han remained definitive. He believes that the next chapter will see K-pop integrate firmly into the global mainstream.
