Steins;Gate Re:Boot Xbox Release Delayed to October
Spike Chunsoft postpones the Xbox Series X|S version, keeping the Steam release on schedule.
Highlights
- Steins;Gate Re:Boot will launch on Xbox Series X|S in late October, delayed from its original August release date.
- The Steam version remains scheduled for Aug 20 globally.
- Developed by MAGES., the Steins;Gate remake features revamped visuals, revised pacing, new content, and an expanded route.
Spike Chunsoft has delayed the Xbox Series X|S version of Steins;Gate Re:Boot, pushing its launch from Aug 20 to Oct 29, 2026. The publisher announced the changes on Aug 11 through its official social media channels “to align with the western console release date.”
According to the company, the shift brings Xbox in line with the game’s PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 launches, scheduled on the same day. The company apologized to players awaiting the release and asked for their understanding.
The delay narrows Steins;Gate Re:Boot’s Western rollout to a two-stage launch. Steins;Gate Re:Boot PC version via Steam still arrives on Aug 20, 2026, across all markets. In Japan, the game skips Xbox entirely, releasing the title on other console systems, including PS5, PS4, and Switch, on Aug 20.
That omission reflects Xbox’s marginal footprint in Japan’s console market. VG Chart’s reporting showed Xbox Series X|S sold roughly 12K units nationwide by May 2026, in comparison to Switch 2’s 1.9M unit sales in the same window.
Steins;Gate Re is a Reboot Built on a 15-Year-Old Franchise
Developed by MAGES. and published by Spike Chunsoft, Steins;Gate Re:Boot rebuilds MAGES.’ (previously known as 5pb.) 2009 visual novel Steins;Gate with new visuals, revised pacing, and background graphics. It also includes the Gamma Worldline route and ending not found in earlier releases.
The rebooted game runs on M2’s E-Mote animation engine. Character designer huke has redrawn the cast, and the number of event CGs has been doubled, as well. The original Steins;Gate has sold more than 4M copies worldwide, across all its titles.
Its success extended beyond games; the acclaimed 2011 TV anime, titled Steins;Gate, became a cornerstone for sci-fi anime. The anime currently holds a 9.07 score out of 10 on My Anime List, the largest anime-manga database.
The latest delay follows an earlier postponement in late 2025, when MAGES. moved Steins;Gate Re into 2026 to improve the game further. While Spike Chunsoft has not linked the Xbox delay to development issues, the schedule change means console players across all major platforms will now receive the remake simultaneously as the West.
