Izushiro’s light novel series The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan is headed to television, with an anime adaptation officially scheduled to premiere in 2027. The announcement on June 10 simultaneously unveiled a teaser visual, a promotional video, the series’ lead cast, and full production staff.
The anime will air on CBC/TBS’ nationwide Agaru Anime programming block, across 28 broadcast stations. HOTLINE animation studio is producing The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan ((Saikyō Mahōshi no Inton Keikaku) TV anime.
The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan series originated on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō web fiction platform back in 2015 before Hobby Japan commercially released the novels under its HJ Bunko label. It later expanded into a manga adaptation illustrated by Yū Uonuma, and a manga spinoff.
The plot centers on Alus Reigin, the strongest of over 100K Magicmasters in a world where humans and supernatural Fiends co-exist and battle over dominance. The narrative follows incidents after Alus’ early retirement and his undercover placement at a magic academy, training successors while continuing to fight in secret.

Alongside the anime announcement, a prequel manga titled The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan Zero - The Secret History of the Beginning was also launched. The prequel will bring light to Alus’ backstory before his academy days, when he was on the battlefield.
The series’ web-novel-to-anime path mirrors the trajectory of other Shōsetsuka ni Narōu titles, including Re: Zero, Mushoku Tensei, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime series that now anchor multiple anime seasons and franchise merchandise lines. The platform reported in May that more than 200 of its web novels have received anime adaptations.
