Highlights

  • Resident Evil Requiem surpasses 6M copies in sales under three weeks.
  • The game also peaked at 344K concurrent players on Steam and achieved the highest user score in the series.
  • Capcom plans new content, events, and cross-media expansion to build on Resident Evil’s global momentum.

Osaka-based game publisher Capcom Co., Ltd. has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is now the fastest-selling entry in its flagship Resident Evil franchise, after surpassing 6M copies in sales within less than three weeks from its release. The title, published on Feb 27, 2026, has already created a Steam record with more than 344K concurrent players over the debut weekend.

Resident Evil Requiem has broken several franchise records since its launch. Within a week of release, it surpassed 5M copies in sales and became the biggest launch in the franchise. The title also holds the highest Metacritic score in franchise history with a 9.5 Metacritic user score.

Requiem’s pace reflects the continued commercial viability of legacy IP when paired with modern distribution and live-service-adjacent engagement strategies. Capcom emphasized that Requiem “offers photorealistic visuals and a deep sense of immersion,” enabling players to experience the intensity of terror and thrilling action in the gameplay.

Capcom Affirms Resident Evil Requiem’s Growth Strategy

Capcom’s latest figures highlight how the Resident Evil franchise has evolved into a consistent revenue engine. The company noted cumulative series sales exceeded 183M units globally by 2025, reflecting decades of sustained audience demand.

The publisher also noted that they plan to take new measures to support and capitalize on the momentum of Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom is preparing for new content and celebratory events tied to the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise on March 22.

The company is bringing a series of orchestral concerts across the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and a collaboration with Universal Studios Japan. Last week, director Koshi Nakanishi also confirmed that Capcom will expand the lore with extra stories, stating, “We will dive deeper into the world of Requiem.” The franchise is also getting a reboot movie with renowned director Zach Cregger.

Capcom’s decision to schedule the new game and a new movie premiere in the same year shows how the company is leaning heavily on its established intellectual property. It also doubles down on a generic trend within the video game industry, where publishers significantly rely on their well-established IPs. The pattern has been noticed across franchises such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Pokémon, amongst others.
