Highlights

  • RuneScape: Dragonwilds is set to launch in APAC, with support for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean languages.
  • The release marks the first formal expansion of the RuneScape IP into Asia-Pacific markets.
  • Jagex is positioning localization as a core strategy to support its global expansion plans.

Jagex has confirmed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will expand into the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region later this summer. The release will introduce language support for simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The launch marks the first formal expansion of the RuneScape IP into APAC markets and signals a broader effort to scale the franchise globally.

The company is mainly positioning localization as a strategic priority rather than a regional add-on.

Jagex CEO, Jon Bellamy, said in the announcement that the move is a “milestone moment.” He added that launching in native languages reflects a commitment to building RuneScape into a global franchise designed to last for the next 25 years.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds APAC Expansion Strategy and Global Roadmap

The APAC push follows earlier localization into Portuguese and Spanish in September last year, targeting Latin America. Jagex has outlined a wider ambition to become a “multi-product, community-powered franchise,” identifying APAC as the “natural next step” in that plan.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is currently available on Steam Early Access.

Set on the continent of Ashenfall, the game introduces a co-operative survival crafting format for one to four players. Gameplay centers on crafting gear, gathering resources, building skills, and confronting dragon-led threats, with a central objective to defeat the Dragon Queen.

Jagex disclosed that the Early Access roadmap will introduce new regions such as Fellhollow. It will also add NPCs, quests, music, lore, modes, gear, and ongoing quality-of-life updates shaped by community feedback.

The expansion follows a period of mixed developments for the company. Jagex crossed $3 billion USD in lifetime revenue earlier this year through RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.

In June 2025, the company reduced staff in non-game development roles as part of operational changes. The move came alongside criticism for scaling back Pride Month-related content. Bellamy previously stated that the company made such decisions to prevent backlash and safeguard the game's future.

By extending RuneScape: Dragonwilds into APAC with localized support, Jagex is aligning its live-service model with key global markets and reinforcing its long-term expansion strategy.
