Highlights

  • Machinefall has reached No. 2 on Steam's Popular New Releases chart.
  • The RTS features a seamless, fully playable Earth as its battlefield.
  • The game holds an 88% positive Steam rating despite early technical issues.

Machinefall is emerging as one of Steam's surprise strategy releases. The indie real-time strategy (RTS) has climbed to No. 2 on Steam's Popular New Releases chart, ahead of Palworld's recently launched version 1.0. Released on July 11, 2026, the game is drawing attention by turning the entire Earth into a seamless battlefield instead of limiting players to a single map.

Machinefall Expands the RTS Scale Beyond Traditional Battlefields

Most RTS games, including genre staples like StarCraft, Age of Empires, and Command & Conquer, revolve around contained maps where players expand within fixed boundaries. Even large-scale titles such as Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation focus on massive battlefields or multiple planets.

Machinefall instead uses a single continuous, fully playable Earth, allowing players to zoom from orbital view to street-level combat without loading screens. The design shifts gameplay between global planning and frontline management.

Developed and published by Jan Zizka, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic future where mechanical insect swarms have nearly wiped out humanity. Players begin with a handful of survivors before expanding settlements, gathering resources, and rebuilding civilization. Progression spans from the Stone Age to the Atomic Age, unlocking new buildings, weapons, factories, and technologies while commanding battles involving thousands of units.

Positive Reception, but Players Want More Polish

At the time of writing, Machinefall has 41 Steam user reviews, with 88% rated positive. Players have praised its scale and strategic depth. Reviews also point to bugs, limited variety in buildings and units, performance issues, and the absence of multiplayer.

The title includes single-player, Steam Cloud, Steam Achievements, Family Sharing, and a demo first released in August 2025. The Steam page also discloses that generative AI was used to create some music, images, and sound effects.

Machinefall is available for INR 611 on the Indian Steam Store and $12.74 USD globally, reflecting a 15% introductory discount from INR 719/$14.99 until July 24. Steam Deck compatibility remains listed as Unknown, but its early chart performance suggests the game's planet-scale approach is already resonating with RTS fans.
