Warner Bros. Games and HBO have officially pulled the curtain back on a new way to conquer Westeros. Announced on April 7, 2026, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is a brand-new, free-to-play strategy game heading to iOS and Android devices later this year. While it carries the wider franchise name, the game is firmly rooted in the House of the Dragon timeline. It drops players directly into the brutal "Dance of the Dragons" era, exactly 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, challenging them to hatch dragons, build massive armies, and fight for control of the Seven Kingdoms.
The core experience is built around an accessible but deeply strategic tile-based combat system. Players will step into the shoes of an original Valyrian descendant, tasked with gathering resources, upgrading strongholds, and raising their own pack of dragons. To keep the gameplay fresh, the developers have structured the game around eight-week seasonal cycles called "Reigns,” as per IGN.
These massive campaigns will feature shifting alliances, rotating objectives, and epic narrative events—such as organizing a full-scale invasion of King's Landing. Along the way, players will need to forge vital alliances with other real-world fans to secure their territorial expansion.
Fans of the Emmy-winning prequel series will find plenty of crossover, perfectly timed to tie into the expected June 2026 premiere of House of the Dragon Season 3. Players will ally with and fight alongside familiar faces like Aemond Targaryen, Corlys Velaryon, Alicent Hightower, and Rhaenyra Targaryen. A cinematic announcement trailer accompanied the news, showing dragon eggs hatching and massive beasts torching castles, closing with the ominous line: "Only flame and blood will claim the Iron Throne."
Pre-Registration Milestones and Epic Rewards
Dragonfire is in the hands of Warner Bros. Games Boston. While their most recent release was the mobile hit Game of Thrones: Conquest, older PC gamers might know the studio's deep roots in the multiplayer space. Founded in 1994 as CyberSpace and later known as Turbine Inc., the studio built classic MMOs like Asheron's Call, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and The Lord of the Rings Online before officially rebranding under the WB umbrella in late 2018.
While there is no hard release date set beyond "later in 2026," pre-registration is already live across the App Store, Google Play, and the game's official website, gotdragonfire.com. Signing up early ensures you get notified the moment the game launches, but it also contributes to a massive community milestone event packed with in-game rewards.
Right out of the gate, anyone who pre-registers will automatically earn 100 Gold. From there, it's up to the community to push the numbers higher. If 1 million players sign up, everyone will receive six new Banner Maker Sigils. Hitting the 2 million mark unlocks 1,000 Runic Fragments, and reaching 5 million will reward all early adopters with two new avatars.
The ultimate goal sits at a massive 10 million pre-registrations. If the community hits that cap, every pre-registered player will unlock the incredibly rare Dawnseeker dragon, giving them a serious edge in their early bids for the Iron Throne.
