Highlights

  • Nexon takes over Overwatch PC publishing in South Korea on August 12 to boost local services.
  • Players must link Battle.net to Nexon accounts by August 11 to keep all game progress and data.
  • Early registrants receive exclusive rewards, including the "Splash Surfer D.Va" skin, to support the transition.

Overwatch is getting a massive home-field advantage in South Korea. Starting August 12, gaming giant Nexon will officially take over PC publishing duties for Blizzard Entertainment’s flagship hero shooter across the country. Coinciding with the start of the game's Season 4 update, this landmark handover shifts local live operations, business management, and vital PC bang services directly to Nexon Korea.

While Blizzard will retain full ownership of the intellectual property and continue leading core game development, Nexon will leverage its massive domestic infrastructure to deliver customized live services and hyper-localized content. To support this ambitious transition and ensure its success, both companies have committed to hiring additional local talent.

For existing Korean players, the most important news is that not a single hour of progress will be lost. A mandatory pre-registration and account-linking period officially opened on July 7 and will run through August 11, giving the community ample time to prepare before the publishing handover occurs, as per Gamesindustry.biz.

By visiting a dedicated transition portal to verify their identity and link their Battle.net accounts directly to their Nexon IDs, players are guaranteed that all accumulated data, including character progression statistics, in-game currencies, and cherished cosmetics like skins, emotes, and sprays, will transfer completely intact. When operations go live, players will gain enhanced accessibility by launching the game through Nexon.com and the Nexon Plug app, while still retaining the option to log in via the traditional Battle.net desktop client.

Exclusive Pre-Registration Rewards and Splash Surfer D.Va Skin

To make the jump even sweeter, the companies are distributing a significant payload of digital rewards to users who link their accounts before the August deadline. Qualifying players will unlock an exclusive Nexon Legendary Loot Box that guarantees four legendary character skins, alongside twenty Mythic Prisms, five standard Legendary Loot Boxes, a custom Nexon Mari profile card, and a unique player title. Most notably, participating players will receive the brand-new Splash Surfer D.Va legendary skin, a special homage celebrating South Korea's iconic in-game hero.

Leadership from both publishers sees this partnership as a turning point for the game's regional community, specifically engineered to revitalize the domestic player base through faster communication and expanded internet cafe benefits that align with South Korea's distinct gaming culture.

"The Nexon team has been working closely with Blizzard to provide a service that enhances the Overwatch experience through Nexon's live operations and hyperlocalisation," said Nexon President and CEO Junghun Lee.

Blizzard Senior Vice President of Live Games Walter Kong added: "Together with Nexon, we are proud of the high-quality, tailored experience we are building for players in Korea, and we are excited to usher in this new chapter for the Korean Overwatch community."

This strategic agreement, which was initially struck in late March, carries major industry weight because South Korea remains one of the world's most critical and competitive arenas for multiplayer PC shooters. The publishing acquisition arrives during a period of record-breaking financial momentum for Nexon, giving the company substantial capital to scale up its domestic portfolio. In its latest first-quarter financial report, Nexon disclosed a staggering 118% year-over-year increase in net income, reaching Â¥57.2 billion (approximately $360.7M USD).

This surge in corporate earnings was heavily supported by global multiplayer successes like Embark Studios' Arc Raiders, which sold an additional 4.6M units during that single quarter. By combining Blizzard's global development pipeline with Nexon's decades of localized live-service mastery, both publishers are positioning Overwatch for a major competitive resurgence across the country.
