Highlights

  • Nintendo reportedly targets 20M Switch 2 units for FY2027.
  • Switch 2 prices will rise across major global markets.
  • Strong demand continues despite upcoming price increases.

Nintendo is reportedly preparing a larger-than-expected production run for the Switch 2 as demand for the console continues to remain strong worldwide. According to Bloomberg, the company has asked suppliers and manufacturing partners to prepare around 20M Switch 2 systems during the fiscal year (FY) ending March 2027. That internal target is well above Nintendo’s official forecast of 16.5M unit sales released earlier in May 2026.

The higher manufacturing goal follows a similar pattern from Nintendo’s previous FY in 2025-26. The company initially projected 15M Switch 2 sales before ultimately reaching 19.86M units.

Industry analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg that Nintendo often starts with conservative guidance before adjusting expectations later. “For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later,” Toto stated.

Nintendo Switch 2 Demand Remains Strong Despite Price Hikes

Nintendo’s expanded production plans come as the company prepares hardware price increases across several major regions.

  • Beginning Sep 1, 2026, the Switch 2 price in the United States will rise by $50 USD to $499.99.
  • European pricing will increase to €499.99 (~$580), while Canadian pricing will rise from $629.99 CAD to $679.99.
  • In Japan, revised pricing for the Switch family takes effect May 25, 2026, with most hardware increasing by roughly ¥10K (~$62.79).

Nintendo previously clarified that the changes were tied to shifting market conditions and rising component costs.

The company is also continuing to build out the Switch 2 software lineup. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launched this week and drew positive reactions across industry reviews and social media. Nintendo’s upcoming release slate also includes titles such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Demand for the hardware remains elevated in Japan, where some retailers have reportedly introduced one-console-per-customer sales policies. Analysts now expect Nintendo’s upcoming game lineup to play a major role in determining whether the company eventually raises its public sales forecast later in the FY.
