Highlights

  • ‘Roblox Everywhere’ will let creators release games as standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles.
  • Cross-play will be enabled by default, connecting standalone players with users on the main Roblox app.
  • Roblox is exploring major storefronts while expanding browser access and offline play for supported games.

Roblox is preparing to let creators release their games as standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles through ‘Roblox Everywhere,’ announced Sept. 12, 2026. The initiative will keep Roblox technology and services powering these releases. Default cross-play will allow standalone players to connect with users on the main Roblox app.

In a statement to PC Gamer, Roblox clarified that it is targeting major storefronts for these standalone releases. The company will initially test the model with selected developers and storefronts before providing further details.

The company has not confirmed whether the Epic Games Store, Steam, or GOG will carry these games.

Roblox Moves Toward a Broader Gaming Ecosystem

The move targets audiences that currently sit outside Roblox's ecosystem. Industry analyst, Matthew Ball, stated in 2025 that Roblox generated more player engagement and revenue growth than PlayStation, Steam, and Fortnite combined, highlighting the scale creators already have within the platform.

Roblox is also expanding access in other ways.

Games are expected to become playable directly through Chrome by the end of 2026, with other browsers planned later. A new offline option will also support single-player games without a network connection.

The shift comes as traditional game companies increasingly use creator platforms. Starbreeze launched a Payday spinoff on Roblox, while Mattel has identified creator platforms, including Roblox and Fortnite, as part of its gaming strategy.

Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, welcomed the development, writing that Roblox is becoming an engine for standalone games while Unreal Engine 6 builds a standards-based interoperable content ecosystem. He added that developers are the winners.

For Roblox creators, the change could take successful experiences far beyond the platform and into the wider games market.
