Highlights

  • Roblox’s latest economic impact report points to India’s growing role in its creator ecosystem.
  • Indian developers are attracting international audiences as player engagement and creator payouts increase.
  • India’s expanding gaming market presents further opportunities for local studios to build successful games.

India’s growing pool of game developers could become a larger source of content for Roblox, according to a new economic impact report prepared by consultancy Access Partnership. The report estimates that Roblox-related creator activity contributed $14.8M USD to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025.

It also estimates that this activity supported approximately 510 full-time-equivalent jobs across the economy in 2025.

The findings come as Roblox grows its engagement with India’s gaming community. The company held its first UNBOX ROBLOX event in New Delhi on Oct 13, 2026, highlighting creator tools, platform developments, and games.

Roblox Creator Payouts and Player Growth

Roblox’s daily active users (DAU) in India increased 64% year-over-year (YoY) in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Between 2020 and 2025, the country’s DAU base recorded a 76% compound annual growth rate.

The report also found that more than 250 Indian creators qualified for Roblox payouts in 2025. The number of eligible creators grew at a 96% annual rate, while payouts increased at a 72% compound annual growth rate between 2020 and 2025.

Sunil Rao, managing director of Roblox India and South Asia, said, “This is the age of small studios and the next big hit on Roblox could come from India.” He also highlighted the platform’s growing user base.

Outlook Respawn has also explored this creator economy in its July 2026 podcast, featuring Meta Fashion founder, Arjun Goel.

Indian Studios Build Global Audiences

Two Indian studios illustrate this potential:

  • Small World Games: The self-funded Bengaluru studio, with around 20 employees, has recorded more than 1.6B visits for Death Ball and 560M for Racket Rivals.
  • Meta Fashion: The New Delhi-based company has sold more than 2.5M virtual items and built a community exceeding 25K members.

Among surveyed Indian creators, 92% reported that Roblox helped them reach international users. Overseas audiences accounted for an average of 52% of DAU and 55% of revenue, with the United States (U.S.), the United Kingdom (U.K.), and Japan among the leading markets.

India’s Gaming Market Offers Further Potential

India’s video game industry revenue is projected to rise from INR 6.3K Cr in 2025 to INR 9.2K Cr by 2028. This represents an annual growth rate of 13%, compared with 5.1% globally.

The report surveyed 204 creators and 207 users between May and June 2026.

Among surveyed creators, 94% said they could build games with minimal prior experience, while 91% found Roblox’s tools helpful for learning. These findings highlight the platform’s potential to lower entry barriers for aspiring developers, although they reflect survey responses rather than outcomes across the entire Indian gaming industry.
