Roblox is widening access to its games while giving creators new tools to build, reach players, and manage their earnings. At the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2026, Roblox founder and CEO, David Baszucki, reported that players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox last quarter across more than 180 countries.
As the platform celebrates its 20th anniversary, the company announced changes covering game distribution, discovery, creation, communication, and creator payments.
Roblox Scales Up Its Creator Payment System
Creators have earned more than $5 billion USD through DevEx since 2013, including approximately $1.7 billion over the past year. Roblox Plus generated more than 300 million Robux in its first four months.
The top 10 creators averaged $65.7 million annually, compared with $10.8 million for the top 100 and $1.4 million for the top 1,000. The median DevEx creator received about $1,500.
Meanwhile, Roblox Wallet will roll out later in 2026 to eligible U.S. independent creators aged 18 and above, providing cleared earnings in real currency every business day. International expansion is planned for 2027, alongside the Roblox Card.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney reacted to the announcement with, “Goodbye Apple Tax!”
Roblox Lowers the Barrier to Game Development
Build, Roblox’s mobile-first creation tool, lets users create games through prompts and experiment with ideas without relying on Roblox Studio. Since its alpha launch in New Zealand, creators have used Build to publish approximately 9,000 games, while 71% of the thousands of users who created a game through the tool had never used Roblox Studio before.
The public alpha is now expanding to Serbia and Singapore, with new features including an asset library, desktop access, and iterative controls.
Scene Generator will later allow creators to generate functional layouts using text prompts and reference images, which they can refine in Studio. Roblox is currently working to connect Build with Studio, allowing creators to operate, view, and manage their games across both tools.
Roblox Reworks How Players Play and Discover Games
‘Roblox Everywhere’ will give creators the option to release their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, while Roblox continues to provide the technology and services behind them. The company will also bring games directly to the web. By the end of 2026, players using Chrome will be able to launch an experience from its Experience Details Page without installing the app, with additional browsers planned.
Roblox is adding more flexibility for players who have limited connectivity.
Creators will be able to offer offline solo modes alongside live multiplayer experiences, with offline play planned for mid-2027 and early access coming soon. The new Friends chat tab will let players coordinate across games, while voice typing and policy-reviewed Quick Words will provide additional communication options.
The platform is also expanding its engine beyond its established 3D multiplayer focus. An orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet imports will support 2D and puzzle games.
Turn-based asynchronous multiplayer will enter Studio Beta in October, followed by a full release by the end of 2026.
Roblox is further changing discovery through Moments, which is now fully available in the U.S. Gameplay videos from Experience Details Pages will begin appearing there later this month. Players will be able to purchase items and backgrounds shown by avatars in October 2026, while Build games will become playable within Moments in the coming months.
