Highlights

  • Toei Games officially launches with three original titles, led by the 2026 mystery adventure KILLA.
  • The debut slate prioritizes creator-driven IPs like HINO and DEBUG NEPHEMEE over anime adaptations.
  • All titles will debut on Steam with planned future releases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Toei Company, the legendary Japanese entertainment powerhouse behind anime titans like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and One Piece, is officially throwing its hat into the video game ring. The newly minted Toei Games division has unveiled its debut slate of three completely original titles, with the first game, a mystery adventure called KILLA, set to hit PC via Steam later in 2026. This announcement marks a bold and unexpected strategic pivot for the entertainment juggernaut. Instead of leaning on adaptations of its globally recognized anime franchises, Toei Games is committing entirely to fresh, creator-driven properties built from the ground up alongside talented developers.

While all three newly announced titles are currently available to wishlist on Steam as PC exclusives for now, Toei Games has confirmed active plans to eventually bring these experiences to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

KILLA: A 3D Mystery Adventure Set for 2026

Leading the charge with a confirmed 2026 release is KILLA, a 3D mystery adventure developed by Black Tangerine, a four-member female developer team from Korea. Set in a dark fantasy world inspired by puppetry, the story follows Valhalla, a former homeless orphan. After her beloved mentor is brutally murdered, she embarks on a vengeful quest guided only by his final, cryptic words: "Kill Ra." This clue leads her to an enigmatic island housing nine suspects, all bearing "Ra" in their names.

To uncover the true culprit, players will use Valhalla’s unique "Resonance" ability to probe the memories and dreams of the suspects, piecing together the truth across multiple possible endings.

HINO: A Visually Striking 2D Dark Fantasy

Joining the roster is HINO, a visually striking 2D adventure that does not yet have a firm release date. Developed by the Japanese team UnGloomStudio, this atmospheric dark fantasy is brought to life entirely through intricate ballpoint pen illustrations by the artist Yatara.

Players will guide a red-ribboned girl named Hino and her strange companion, the Monimoni Skeleton, as they search for a "place of peace" in a shadow-drenched world overrun by monsters. Players will need to navigate deadly traps and make choices that lead to various endings, with the official description hinting at a shocking alternate narrative that diverges entirely from the main story.

DEBUG NEPHEMEE: Hacking and Combat in a Realm

Rounding out the debut slate is DEBUG NEPHEMEE, another distinct 2D adventure without a set release date, created by a solo developer and former systems engineer at NephemeeStudio. This top-down game plunges players into the bug-infested digital world of Nepherum, a realm plagued by anomalies and inhabited by beings known as "Nephemi."

Players are tasked with battling these corrupted entities using a highly unique combat system. By hacking into their opponents' memories, values, and philosophies, players will "debug" them in combat to restore their lost personalities, as per Gosu Gamers.

Toei Games was officially launched just last week, on April 21, as a cornerstone of the company’s 75th-anniversary celebrations. Joining major subsidiaries like Toei Animation, the new gaming brand is envisioned by Toei President and CEO Fumio Yoshimura as a vital growth pillar meant to stand shoulder to shoulder with its traditional film and television wings. With such a strong legacy in entertainment, expectations are already high for Toei's future in the gaming industry, even as they firmly plant their first steps in original, independent storytelling.
