Final Fantasy XIV-Evangelion Crossover Anchors Expansion
FF14-Evangelion event adds Ghosts of Desire raid to Evercold expansion.
Highlights
- Ghosts of Desire will launch as a 24-player alliance raid in Final Fantasy XIV.
- The Evercold expansion is scheduled to release in January 2027.
- Square Enix is developing the crossover in partnership with Khara Inc.
Square Enix used its April 24, 2026, Fan Festival presentation in Anaheim to position a Final Fantasy XIV (FF14)-Evangelion crossover as a central pillar of its next expansion, Evercold. Square Enix producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, confirmed the collaboration will arrive as Evangelion: Ghosts of Desire. It will take the form of a 24-player alliance raid tied to the expansion’s post-launch cycle.
The FF14-Evangelion crossover announcement places the project among the game’s largest licensed integrations to date.
The raid follows the alliance format used in prior collaborations, such as the NieR: Automata series introduced in 2019. It is being developed in partnership with Khara Inc., the studio behind Neon Genesis Evangelion. The content is expected to be released in multiple parts across patches, consistent with how alliance raids are typically deployed.
Final Fantasy XIV-Evangelion Event Tied to Evercold Expansion Roadmap
The FF14’s Ghosts of Desire raid is designed as endgame content within Evercold, which is scheduled to launch in January 2027.
The expansion introduces the Godless Realms Saga, set in the Fourth, a frost-ravaged parallel world. It also brings two new playable classes, raises the level cap from 100 to 110, and implements a combat system overhaul alongside dungeons, PvP updates, and trials.
The FF14-Neon Genesis Evangelion collaboration also marks a renewed push for the anime franchise in the gaming space. While nearly two dozen Evangelion titles have been released since 1996, its last console entry launched in 2011.
Meanwhile, Khara has since focused on licensed mobile projects, making this Square Enix Evangelion crossover its most substantial game involvement in over a decade.
Additional announcements included a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for August 2026, which will have a separate discounted subscription. A free trial update will also roll out on April 28, adding Shadowbringers.
Further details on the Evangelion crossover FF14 rollout are expected at Fan Festival stops in Berlin and Tokyo later in 2026.
