Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 3 has been voted as the most anticipated Summer 2026 anime, according to a poll published on June 29 by Animate Times. The media outlet, regarded for its reporting on Japan’s anime and manga culture, offered an early look at what domestic viewers are most eager to watch this season with the rankings.
The long-running isekai anime was followed by two new seasons of returning franchises: From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman season 2 and Saga of Tanya the Evil season 2. The top five were rounded out by The Elusive Samurai season 2 and You and I Are Polar Opposites season 2, with no new property.
Animate Times Summer 2026 Anime Rankings Highlight Sequel Dominance
Animate Times’ list was dominated by continuing franchises over new intellectual property. Nine of the top ten entries are either sequels, new seasons, or returning names. Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You and The Demon Bride are the only new anime titles among the top 10 ranks.
The rankings also highlighted a concentration of ‘narou’ or isekai-style light novels, a genre that has dominated Japanese seasonal anime lineups over the past decade. Several adaptations, including the top-ranked Mushoku Tensei, Saga of Tanya the Evil, and Skeleton Knight in Another World, are popular returning isekai.

The chart originally ranks 15 anime based on audience interest. Beyond the top 10, Though I Am an Inept Villainess, Red River, and The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You are also ranked among the top 15.
However, Animate Times’ rankings diverge sharply from a similar initiative by CM Site Co. Ltd. The research firm’s pre-broadcast anticipation survey of 2,452 Japanese respondents placed Ghost in the Shell and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War last cour in the top two.
Based on that background, Animate Times’ core ranking seems likely to be based on the preference of fantasy and light-novel fandom. Only Mushoku Tensei and The Elusive Samurai appear in both outlets’ top four, suggesting these two titles dominate across various fandoms.
The rankings also reflect the competitive nature of Summer 2026, a season featuring more than 50 new and continuing titles across Japanese broadcasters and streaming platforms. While these anticipation polls do not predict long-term viewership or commercial success, they offer an early indicator of where fan attention is concentrating.
