Hombale Films announced the second installment in its Mahavatar Cinematic Universe with the release of Mahavatar Parshuram first poster on April 19. The production house confirmed a December 2027 theatrical release for the animated feature, which centers on the warrior-sage avatar Parashuram from Hindu mythology.
The poster carries the tagline “When dharma (tr. righteousness) declines, the parshu (tr. axe) rises,” reflecting the central theme of Parshuram as a force restoring balance against injustice. The first look poster showcases Parshuram amidst a brutal battlefield with a blood-soaked axe in hand and warriors approaching him in the background.
The poster release was also accompanied by a title reveal motion poster, giving a more cruel view of the battlefield, with severed warrior heads and bloodbath. The motion poster's tagline says, "A Storm Rises Against Adharma (tr. immoral)."
The announcement builds on the commercial success of Mahavatar Narsimha, released in July 2025. Mahavatar Narsimha grossed approximately INR 326.82 Cr worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Indian animated film. Like the previous film, Ashwin Kumar is helming Mahavatar Parshuram with Hombale Films and Kleem Productions.
What is Mahavatar Parshuram and the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe?
At the time of writing, no concrete details about the plot have been announced. However, Mahavatar Parshuram is expected to explore the origins and moral conflicts of Vishnu’s sixth avatar, Parshuram, traditionally depicted as a warrior with divine attributes and a strong moral standing.
Producer Vijay Kiragandur stated that the film aims to reconnect audiences with cultural roots through a modern format, emphasizing that “our stories are our strength.” He further described Mahavatar Parshuram as “a story of legacy, strength, and purpose.”
Mahavatar Parshuram is the second installment within India’s Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, spanning over a decade of release schedule and seven feature films. These seven movies will adapt six Vishnu avatar stories, with each film adapting one of the avatars except for the Kalki avatar, which has two movies.
The franchise’s future roadmap includes Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dwarkadhish (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and a two-part Kalki conclusion in 2035 and 2037. The approach mirrors global franchise structures such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where interconnected narratives drive audience retention and long-term revenue.
The Mahavatar Parshuram announcement reflects growing industry confidence in mythology-based animated content following Narsimha's performance. Hombale Films is also taking a long-tail marketing approach. The first poster serves as an early marketing signal, with eventual release of cast, plot, and trailer, to create hype and narrative through the time before eventual release.
