Highlights

  • Paramount will release its live-action Call of Duty movie on June 30, 2028.
  • Peter Berg will direct the film, with Taylor Sheridan co-writing the script.
  • Call of Duty remains one of gaming’s biggest franchises, with over 500M copies sold.

Paramount has set June 30, 2028, as the release date for its live-action Call of Duty movie, making the gaming brand a key part of its franchise strategy. The date was announced during Paramount’s CinemaCon 2026 presentation and later confirmed in an official April 16, 2026, post from Call of Duty’s account on X.

The film will be directed by Peter Berg, and co-written by Taylor Sheridan. Paramount is developing and producing the project, with worldwide distribution also handled by the studio. Rob Kostich of Activision and David Glasser of 101 Studios are producing.

Kostich stated the team only wanted to proceed “if it’s right.” He also added that the goal is to capture authenticity “on a human level” while combining it with large-scale spectacle.

In a CinemaCon message, Berg stated that he and Sheridan are closely connected to the special operations community and want to reflect that realism on screen.

Call of Duty Movie Builds on One of Gaming’s Biggest Brands

The adaptation draws from one of the industry’s largest franchises. Call of Duty has sold more than 500M copies across 16 years, reached over 1B players, and generated more than $35B USD in lifetime revenue. The mobile version also crossed 1B downloads in 2024.

No plot, cast, setting, or subtitle has been announced, and the film remains officially untitled. It is unclear whether the story will align with Black Ops, Modern Warfare, or introduce a new narrative.

However, many fans view the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy as the strongest adaptation option. It could be reworked into a grounded military thriller centered on Price, Soap, and Ghost, using its global conflict storyline as the foundation.

The announcement comes as Activision reshapes the brand elsewhere. The company confirmed Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile would shut down on April 17, 2026, after failing to meet expectations. While one branch closes, Paramount’s film signals a broader expansion into cinema and potentially TV.
