Japanese ebook store Comic C’moA, operated by NTT Solmare, revealed that isekai was the top manga genre among both male and female readers this year. It was revealed in the company's Annual Ranking for 2025, published in Dec 2025.
Among female readers, isekai was joined by fantasy and parenting/child-rearing as leading categories, while male readers also showed high interest in battle/suspense and drama genres alongside. The data underscores isekai’s unique position as the sole genre dominating across gender lines in 2025.
Popular titles like Kingdom and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime dominated in rankings; however, a new title, Belle Poupée's Super Darling Engagement: When the Doll Princess Who Was Told “You’re Not My Type” Stopped Holding Back, the Prince Became Smitten, rose to sudden popularity. The manga started serializing in Oct 2024, and currently holds a My Anime List Score of 7.30.
What the Rankings Imply About the Manga Market
The development coincides with the global manga market's continued strong growth, with digital consumption surpassing print. The industry's total value is expected to increase significantly by the end of the decade, reaching $47.8 billion USD.
Along with isekai sections, the ranking also noted popular titles in other categories, including Girls’ Manga, Women’s Manga, and Young Adult Manga. Among Girls’ Manga, Perfectly Fine on My Own, So My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind! by Jun Haruta and Yahiro Arase, and To Sir, Without Love: I’m Divorcing You by Iroto Tsumugi, KoriHisakawa, and Airumu were popular. In Women’s Manga, Once A Fighter Slave, Now Mate to the Dragonkin Who Freed Me by Kuroe Hayase and Kiiko Jou rose to rankings, along with Belle Poupee's Super Darling Engagement.
Within the Boys Manga section, Solo Leveling by Chugong, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity by Saka Mikami, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime by Fuse, Mitz Vah, Kawakami Taiki held the top three spots. In the Young Adult section, A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You by Hachi Nishiga, and Medalist by Tsurumaikada were popular. The Apothecary Diaries by Hyūganatsu and Touko Shino was the most read title across the Light Novels section.
While Comic C’moA’s ranking provides insights into digital manga engagement, where the Isekai genre has driven the crowd, the manga sales rankings say otherwise. According to the 2025 Oricon charts, sales were dominated by Shonen genre titles, with One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dandadan, and Blue Lock taking the top four spots. Isekai manga Kingdom secured the fifth rank with approximately 2.5M copies sold.
