India Returns to PMGC After Years With Orangutan and True Rippers
Orangutan and True Rippers will represent India at PMGC 2025, with Orangutan starting at the prestigious Gauntlet Stage.
Highlights
- Orangutan and True Rippers have secured slots for PMGC 2025, marking India’s first appearance in PMGC since 2021.
- Orangutan will begin at the Gauntlet Stage (Nov 24–26), entering a high-stakes bracket featuring top teams from China, South Korea, Asia, and MENA regions, while True Rippers will start at the Group Stage (Nov. 28-Dec. 4).
- With PMGC 2025’s four-stage format, Gauntlet, Group Stage, Last Chance, and Grand Finals, both Indian teams get expanded opportunities to qualify, boosting regional visibility in the global esports circuit.
India is set to return to the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) for the first time since 2021, marking a significant re-entry into one of the world’s most competitive mobile esports circuits. After a three-year absence, Orangutan and True Rippers have secured their places at PMGC 2025, with Orangutan entering the Gauntlet Stage on Nov. 24.
According to the announcement, Orangutan will begin its campaign in the Gauntlet Stage (Nov. 24-26, 2025), while True Rippers will enter the Group Stage later in the tournament. This staggered entry provides two Indian teams a chance to navigate different competitive routes and more opportunities to advance.
The 2025 event, hosted in Bangkok, Thailand, features a multi-stage structure and remains the publisher’s biggest global circuit, with the strongest squads from China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Southeast Asia, and South Korea.
PMGC 2025’s Competitive Format and Orangutan’s Position
While both Orangutan and True Rippers will represent India, the main focus remains on Orangutan. The team dominated the national roster by winning regional competitions like “iQOO Battlegrounds Series 2025” and “BGMI Showdown 2025”.
With this momentum, Orangutan will take part in PMGC 2025’s four-stage progression structure. First, The Gauntlet stage will feature 15 other qualified teams from regional championships along with Orangutan, filtering out the seven best performers for the Grand Finals (Dec. 12-14, 2025), and pushing the remaining teams to the Group Stage.
The “Group Stage” will have two rounds (Nov. 28-30 and Dec. 2-4), before selecting six teams for the Grand Finals and pushing 16 teams for the “Last Chance” playoff. Two victorious teams from the Last Chance stage will advance to the highly competitive finals bracket, where the top 15 teams from all stages and one invitee team, Vampire Esports, will clash over 18 matches to select the winner.
This structure will provide Orangutan two chances to qualify for the finale, even if they do not qualify from the Gauntlet stage. However, this structure places Orangutan immediately into a highly competitive bracket, with global heavyweight teams from Vietnam (D’Xavier), China (ThunderTalk Gaming), South Korea (DRX), and other top entrants from the MENA region (ULF Esports, Gen.G Esports, R8 Esports) and Asia (Madbulls, eArena).
India’s double-team entry into PMGC 2025 will expand India’s presence across two stages, giving the region greater exposure in the global esports ecosystem. The feat also underscores the country’s recent development in the gaming sector, in addition to Krafton and other publishers' India-specific efforts to tap the emerging market.
