Highlights
- Capcom’s Integrated Report 2025 outlines plans to elevate Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney into core IPs, expanding them alongside franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
- Capcom aims for growth through new titles, remakes, and new ports, moving beyond compilations and remasters for legacy franchises.
- With targets of 100M annual game sales and a targeted KPI of at least 10%, Capcom positions these classic series as key assets to sustain momentum and broaden its user base.
In its Integrated Report 2025, Capcom declared its intention to elevate Mega Man, Devil May (DMC) Cry, and Ace Attorney to “core IP” status, alongside its three biggest franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. The reports, published on Dec 8, detailed its sustainable growth strategy through reviving the popular classic IPs.
Capcom’s Chief Operating Officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto said Capcom plans to expand its user base and improve performance “through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware,” aiming to cultivate “loyal fan bases.” He mentioned that the company has been consistently releasing two to three new titles, mainly focusing on its core IPs such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter; however, it recognizes the need to expand its pipeline for long-term growth.
Capcom is targeting annual game sales of 100M units and a sustained KPI of 10% or greater operating profit growth going forward. Tsujimoto further explained that, even though they aim to leverage the biggest franchises, it's necessary to elevate other franchises for sustained growth.
Vision Behind Reviving Legacy IPs
Capcom’s renewed focus on these legacy IPs stems from a strategic need to maintain momentum. According to the report, the company aims to leverage more of its back catalog, elevating to the status of “core IPs.”
The proposed three IPs rank among Capcom’s top-selling franchises by lifetime sales. As of Sep 2025, Mega Man has sold 43M units, whereas Ace Attorney has sold 14M units. DMC has observed a sale of 37M units, with DMC5 alone reaching 10M units downloads following the release of Netflix’s animated series based on the game’s narrative.
While the figures are not appealing enough in contrast with the high volume sales of Monster Hunter (123M units) and Resident Evil (178M units) franchises, these titles didn’t receive full-scale new entries in recent years, except for DMC. For Mega Man and Ace Attorney, Capcom has been focusing on compilation and remastered releases till now, with a new Mega Man compilation, Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, slated to release in 2026.
As of now, the company has plans for a new launch for the Resident Evil franchise in 2026, with Resident Evil Requiem’s Feb 2026 launch.
The report leaves some speculations for new entries, remastered collections, re-releases on modern consoles, along with new ports, without specifying any ongoing projects as such. However, by elevating Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney as future “core IPs,” the publisher signals that these series will no longer simply sit in the vault, but will be treated as strategic assets for growth.
