Highlights

  • Third-party sales on the Epic Games Store rose 57% to over $400 million USD in 2025.
  • Total player spending reached $1.16B, with monthly active users peaking at 78M.
  • Free games in 2025 drove engagement, delivering a 40% Steam CCU uplift.

The Epic Games Store reported a 57% year-over-year (YoY) increase in third-party game sales in 2025, with spending on non-Epic titles surpassing $400 million USD. The results were published on Feb 3, 2026, as part of the company’s Epic Games Store annual review 2025, alongside record user activity and mixed engagement trends.

Total player spending across the store reached $1.16B in 2025, up 6% YoY, while monthly active users hit an all-time high of 78M in December 2025. Epic stated the platform now supports more than 6K games and over 317M PC players, with 972M cross-platform accounts linked to its ecosystem.

While overall gameplay hours on the Epic Games Store declined 14% YoY to 6.65B hours, time spent in third-party titles increased 4% to 2.78B hours. Epic attributed the overall decline to reduced engagement in first-party titles, while highlighting steady growth in third-party playtime.

The company pointed to its free games program as a major driver of discovery. Players claimed 662M free titles in 2025, with more than 77% of those games reaching an all-time peak concurrent user (CCU) count during their free promotion.

Epic reported that the program generated a measurable halo effect across PC gaming, including a 40% uplift in CCU on Steam while a title was free on Epic.

Top PC games on the platform in 2025 included Fortnite, Wuthering Waves, Honkai Star Rail, Rocket League, and Genshin Impact. These were followed by EA SPORTS FC 26 (EAFC 2026), Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ), Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), Dead by Daylight, and Infinity Nikki. Epic did not release per-title revenue figures.

Despite the growth, Epic remains a distant second to Steam in PC revenue share. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Vice President (VP) and General Manager (GM) of Epic Games Store, Steve Allison, stated that the company is not trying to replace its rival. “Our growth is going to come from shifting the share of sales on games shipping in both places,” he said.

The 2025 results underline Epic’s strategy of pairing free game downloads with developer-friendly revenue terms to expand its footprint in the PC marketplace.
