GDAI Launches ‘Supernova’ Incubator to Scale Indian Gaming Studios
The GDAI has launched the Supernova incubator to help 40 Indian gaming studios, offering mentorship, venture funding, AI technical guidance and more.
Highlights
- The GDAI launched the Supernova incubator to help 40 Indian gaming studios scale their businesses and reach global markets.
- The program offers mentorship, venture funding, and AI technical guidance in partnership with industry leaders like Tencent.
- Applications are open until July 31, 2026, to help fuel the Indian gaming industry's growth toward $2.4B by 2029.
The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) announced the launch of Supernova, a massive national incubation program designed to help Indian game developers transition from early development to global publishing. Opening applications today, July 14, the initiative will select 40 high-potential studios in its inaugural year, offering them the structured mentorship, venture funding, and publishing access needed to turn passion projects into commercially successful, investment-ready businesses.
For many passionate indie creators and student teams across the country, building a fun prototype is just the first step; the real challenge lies in securing funding, finding the right publishers, and adopting cutting-edge AI workflows into daily production. To help developers clear these hurdles, GDAI has partnered with major industry heavyweights, including Tencent, PhonePe’s Indus Appstore, 1312 Interactive, and Sanchi Connect. Together, they are providing a comprehensive support system that covers everything from business, legal, and intellectual property advisory to cloud infrastructure and AI-focused technical guidance tailored to each studio's specific stage of growth.
This launch arrives at a pivotal moment for the domestic industry. While India already boasts one of the world's largest gaming audiences according to Mintegral's India Gaming Growth Outlook 2026, the ecosystem is now rapidly maturing from sheer player volume to serious financial scale.
MIXI Global Investments’ India’s State of Play report projects that the country's combined in-app and advertising gaming revenue will soar to $2.4 billion USD by 2029. Supernova is specifically engineered to fuel this economic engine, supporting an expanding local landscape that already features over 2,000 companies employing 130,000 talented professionals. Looking further ahead, the initiative directly supports GDAI’s long-term vision of generating more than two million jobs within the Indian gaming sector by 2034.
Indie Game Studios Struggle to Build Sustainable Businesses
At the heart of the initiative is a strong focus on the human side of game creation—specifically, the challenge founders face when trying to build sustainable livelihoods around their art. Shruti Verma, CEO of GDAI, explained that recent conversations with creators nationwide revealed a shared struggle in transitioning from simply building games to running viable, scalable enterprises. She emphasized that Supernova is built to bridge this gap by bringing together the capital, AI expertise, and global networks required to help founders stand out on the world stage.
Echoing this sentiment, Rajan Navani, GDAI Board Member and Chairperson of the Incubation Subcommittee, noted that while India has overflowing entrepreneurial energy and creative talent, the next evolution of the industry relies on empowering local founders to create globally recognized, original intellectual property that can endure for years to come.
The journey for the selected 40 studios will build toward a high-stakes finale at the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) 2026. The incubator will conclude with a grand Demo Day, giving participating founders a spotlight to pitch and showcase their refined games directly to an audience of international publishers, venture capitalists, and industry leaders.
Developers, student teams, and early-stage founders eager to join the inaugural cohort must move quickly. Applications are officially open starting today and will close on July 31, 2026, with the first official class of studios set to be announced in August 2026.
