GTA VI Will Not Come to PC on Launch Day: Take-Two CEO Says

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick states GTA VI's console-first launch is not driven by a PlayStation marketing deal.

Highlights

  • Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that GTA VI's console-first release approach is for serving its core consumer base.
  • Zelnick noted PC now accounts for 45 to 50% of major title sales at Take-Two.
  • GTA VI launches Nov 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but no PC date has been announced.

In a Bloomberg interview published May 4, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed some of the most discussed questions around Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI's release. Many within the gaming community are wondering why PC players are being made to wait, and whether a PlayStation marketing arrangement has anything to do with it.

Zelnick Reveals How Much PC Players Contribute to Sales

Zelnick clarified that there is no deal with Sony to release the highly anticipated game on consoles first. He said, "No, historically, Rockstar has released games on console first.”

Zelnick framed the console-first decision around what he called serving Take-Two’s core audience. He revealed that the publisher must cater to core consumers first, otherwise it becomes harder to reach everyone else.

PC accounted for roughly 5% of NBA 2K sales, which places console as the primary market for the publisher’s sports titles. For a major franchise today, Zelnick said that figure sits at around 45 to 50%. These can include series like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. PC is no longer an afterthought in Take-Two's commercial planning, but it does not get priority over PlayStation and Xbox.

When is GTA VI’s PC Release Date Expected?

GTA VI is currently confirmed for Nov 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, following two delays from an original 2025 window. A PC release date has not been announced. Based on Rockstar's history, GTA V arrived on PC roughly 18 months after its console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 followed 13 months later.

If the trend of 13-18 month delays continues, GTA VI’s expected PC release date should be in 2027 or early 2028. Nothing has been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games so far. What Zelnick's comments do confirm is that PC players will wait, and that the wait is a feature of Rockstar's release philosophy rather than a consequence of platform politics.

Whether the PC version, when it arrives, justifies the gap with technical and feature parity is a question the studio has historically answered well. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both arrived on PC as definitive versions of their respective titles. They had better features and offered enhanced visuals compared to their console counterparts. The expectation for GTA VI will be no different.
