Highlights
- BioWare is hiring a production director for the next Mass Effect.

- The hire suggests development is preparing to scale up.
BioWare has begun hiring a production director for the next Mass Effect game, indicating the long-in-development project may be approaching a more active production phase. The senior role, listed on the official jobs portal of Electronic Arts (EA), will report directly to Mass Effect franchise lead Michael Gamble and is tied specifically to the next entry in the series.
The hiring follows a period of restructuring at BioWare after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which failed to meet EA’s sales expectations and saw no additional content developed.
During that time, Mass Effect 5 officially remained in pre-production, with only a small internal team working on the concept while most of the studio focused on Dragon Age. With The Veilguard launched in late 2024, Mass Effect became the studio’s sole focus, albeit with a reduced workforce.
Gamble wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Hi, I’m hiring a very important senior leadership role. They’ll report to me and it’s gonna be awesome.” The job description notes that the Production Director will work with “creative leadership, studio teams, and internal and external partners to champion the game’s vision and ensure its execution at the highest quality bar.”
Mass Effect Production Director Role Points to Development Ramp-Up
According to the listing, the Production Director will act as a strategic link between creative intent and execution, oversee the full development lifecycle, and manage risks, trade-offs, and cross-team coordination. The role reports to the project’s executive producer and represents a central production leadership position.
The position is Canada-based, with hybrid work available at BioWare’s studios in Edmonton, Vancouver, and Montreal. For British Columbia-based candidates, EA lists a pay range of CAD (Canadian Dollar) $187K (~$136.2K USD) to $259.4K (~$188.9K USD), with compensation determined by role and candidate-specific factors.
Applicants are required to have more than 10 years of game production experience, including senior leadership on multiple large-scale AAA titles, with expertise in RPG (role-playing game) and action RPG development.
BioWare first announced plans for a new Mass Effect game in 2020, according to IGN, primarily to reaffirm its commitment to the franchise. While no release window has been shared, this is an indication that the project is preparing to move beyond early development.
