Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla Games have announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new multiplayer title set in the Horizon universe. The game, revealed through an official PlayStation Blog post on Feb 5, 2026, marks Guerrilla’s latest expansion of the franchise beyond its single-player roots.
The project is positioned as a three-player “tactical co-op action game,” focused on coordinated combat and mission-based progression. Players assume the role of Hunters to hunt hostile machines. Guerilla highlighted that hunters can be chosen from “a roster of uniquely skilled Hunters,” each with a distinct playstyle and weaponry.
Horizon Hunters Gathering is being built as a distinct experience rather than a direct extension of previous storylines. Each Hunter character has their “own motivations and personal struggles,” which are eventually revealed through the game's progression.
The title also has its own narrative campaign that will “introduce new mysteries, characters, and threats.” The game also features a shared social gathering hub, Hunters Gathering. Between missions, players can regroup, celebrate wins, customize equipment, interact with vendors, and team up for new assignments in this space.
Development Vision and Gameplay of Horizon Hunters Gathering
Guerrilla said the new title is designed to translate Horizon’s large-scale machine encounters and tactical combat into a cooperative setting. The studio aims to preserve environmental storytelling and world-building while emphasizing teamwork, role specialization, and shared progression.
The blog post emphasized that the announcement is “both an exciting and daunting step” for the studio. Horizon Hunters Gathering is positioned to be inspired by the developer’s experience in “Killzone multiplayer titles and the momentum of Horizon Zero Dawn."
As of now, the game features two primary modes: Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent. Machine Incursion features an intense mission with waves of machines emerging from underground entrances along with a powerful boss, while Cauldron Descent is set as a “multi-stage trial,” designed to push hunters to their limits.
Guerrilla also confirmed that the title will participate in the PlayStation Beta Program on both PS5 and PC, signaling an early focus on community feedback. The announcement also confirmed that the first “small-scale closed playtest” is scheduled for the end of February 2026.
