Pokémon Champions Emphasizes Cross-Play and Mega Evolution Battles
Pokémon Champions adds cross-play, mega evolutions, and competitive modes.
Highlights
- Pokémon Champions supports cross-platform battles between Nintendo Switch and mobile.
- Mega Evolutions debut with newly discovered abilities.
- Casual, ranked, and online competitions with victory point progression.
Pokémon Champions will introduce a competitive battle-focused experience on Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch 2 users will receive a free update that enables improved visual clarity. The March 24, 2026 announcement also confirmed a Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle.
The bundle includes the base game, expanded Pokémon storage, an extra battle song, and additional in-game bonuses.
The game is structured around online competition. Players form teams of six and engage in turn-based matches built on established mechanics such as Pokémon moves, types, and abilities. Casual battles, private matches, ranked battles, and rotating online competitions are also included.
Pokémon can be obtained by recruiting in-game or transferred through Pokémon HOME, allowing selections from earlier Pokémon titles and Pokémon GO. Victory points earned through matches function as progression currency, move changes, stat adjustments, enabling roster expansion, and cosmetic purchases.
Pokémon Champions Features Center on Cross-Platform Play
A mobile version is also planned, with cross-platform battles supported between console and mobile players.
Likewise, Mega Evolutions introduce additional strategic depth, featuring Mega Emboar, Mega Meganium, and Mega Feraligatr, originally appearing in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Each gains a newly discovered ability. Mega Meganium’s Mega Sol allows its moves to act as if harsh sunlight is active.
Mega Emboar’s Mold Breaker lets its attacks ignore opposing Abilities. Meanwhile, Mega Feraligatr’s Dragonize converts normal-type moves to dragon-type and increases their power by 20%.
Players can recruit one random Pokémon daily for temporary use using Victory Points, or spend additional Victory Points to permanently retain recruits. With competitive matchmaking, cross-play, and roster customization, the Pokémon Champions release date is set for April 8, 2026, focusing on multiplayer battles.
