Roblox Eyes India Expansion With Local Professionals

California-based video game developer Roblox Corporation is reportedly eying a regional expansion in South Asia by setting up a shop in India. According to media reports, the company is actively reaching out to Indian game developers to build games for the platform and hiring employees for its India operation. 

The speculations formed due to Roblox’s job listings on LinkedIn, which show they are hiring country-specific roles. This includes payroll specialists, general managers, and a director of public policy for India.

Local Developer Ecosystem and Strategic Implications

The job listings, for “on-site” opportunities, started being posted around two weeks ago, even though Roblox has not yet announced an expansion plan for India. Every post cites Gurugram as the site for the job, indicating the new Roblox shop might be based there. 

Several developers, familiar with the matter, have stated that Roblox approached to create gaming experiences targeting the 16 + age group, with Roblox signaling potential funding and support for developer teams in India. 

While most of the Indian developers have stayed anonymous while giving statements, Pune-based gaming studio SuperGaming has listed a job offer for “Roblox Game Developer” position, even though the studio did not mention anything about a possible collaboration. 

Hiring India-based operational staff and anonymous tips about a possible collaboration underscore the possibility of Roblox’s India expansion. The move probably follows Roblox’s rise in the APAC region, with 35.7% of total players originating here.

Strategically, India offers Roblox a large, young, mobile-first audience, and a booming gaming market that could drive growth and strengthen Roblox’s footprint in South Asia.
