Highlights
- Roblox launched Family Zone on July 14, 2026, in partnership with MindTrust.
- The experience teaches parents about parental controls, platform features, and online safety.
- The launch comes as Roblox faces growing child safety scrutiny and lawsuits involving grooming allegations.
Roblox has launched Family Zone, an interactive experience that helps parents and caregivers understand the platform alongside their children. Released July 14, 2026, and developed with MindTrust, it combines platform education with broader lessons on online safety.
The game encourages children to guide their parents and caregivers as they explore the platform together. Families can learn about avatar controls and navigation within 3D spaces, while each player retains control of their own character throughout the experience.
Roblox explained that it developed the initiative because "the best way to learn about Roblox is to play on Roblox." According to the company, many parents play online games but are still unfamiliar with the experiences and settings. Family Zone aims to give them firsthand knowledge that can support more informed decisions.
Family Zone Explains Roblox Parental Controls
Interactive tutorials cover tools available to adults with linked accounts. These include setting screen-time limits, choosing who their child can connect with, managing spending, and determining which games they can access. Completing tutorials can also unlock exclusive avatar items, alongside access to age-appropriate experiences.
Future modules will address bullying, scam prevention, and strategies for identifying and avoiding predatory behavior. Roblox is developing additional content with global safety experts and organizations.
The company is also working with mental health nonprofit Koko, Playerthree, and researchers at Northwestern University's Lab for Scalable Mental Health. Together, they are developing a game designed to help children and teenagers build resilience when facing bullying.
Roblox plans to expand Family Zone with more educational content and co-play opportunities. The initiative is intended to encourage ongoing conversations between adults and children while building digital literacy that can be applied beyond the platform. The push comes as Roblox faces increased scrutiny over child safety, including recent lawsuits involving allegations of grooming and inadequate protections for younger users.
Against that backdrop, Family Zone represents another effort by the company to address safety concerns while maintaining trust among children and their parents.
