Roblox Expands Mental Health and Safety Initiatives
Roblox partners with Koko, ThroughLine, and Thrive to bring crisis support and well-being tools to young players.
Highlights
- Roblox expanded mental health and safety initiatives for younger users.
- Koko, Thrive, and an expanded ThroughLine partnership support digital well-being efforts.
- Gaming companies are increasing investment in player safety and mental health programs.
Roblox unveiled a major expansion of its mental health and digital well-being initiatives on May 19, 2026. The company introduced new crisis support tools, partnerships, and educational resources as gaming platforms face growing scrutiny over player safety and online behavior.
The initiatives, announced during Mental Health Awareness Month, are part of Roblox’s broader effort to support younger users beyond standard moderation and parental controls. The company stated that the programs aim to promote healthier online habits and improve access to mental health resources.
One of the largest new partnerships involves a nonprofit organization, Koko. The group is collaborating with Roblox, game studio Playerthree, and researchers from Northwestern University’s Lab for Scalable Mental Health on an anti-bullying game focused on emotional resilience.
Rob Morris, Ph.D., CEO of Koko, said Mental Health Awareness Month is about making support “feel within reach,” and added that Roblox’s initiatives are helping bring those tools closer to younger users.
Roblox is also expanding its existing partnership with crisis support service ThroughLine, which was first announced in 2024. Throughout 2026, ThroughLine’s confidential helpline locator tool will appear across more areas of the platform to connect users with local support services when needed.
Earlier this year, Roblox joined Thrive, a cross-platform initiative designed to anonymously share behavioral signals related to suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders between participating companies. The system is intended to help platforms identify harmful trends and viral content faster without exposing personal user data.
Roblox Adds Teen Well-Being Guides and Community Projects
The company also introduced new educational tools for players and parents. Roblox partnered with Dan Reidenberg, Psy.D., director of Thrive and founder of Safe Online Standards, to create a Gaming & Mental Health guide for players and parents. The resource discusses both the positive effects of gaming and warning signs tied to unhealthy behavior patterns.
Roblox’s Teen Council also created digital well-being recommendations that will be promoted through the company’s Instagram channels and youth-focused safety pages.
The platform additionally highlighted Mindful Egg, a wellness-themed game developed during this year’s LA Hacks Civility Challenge by UCLA students Jasmine Ly and Michelle Phan. The game uses breathing exercises, journaling, and stretching activities to help virtual pets grow and remain healthy.

Gaming Industry Expands Mental Health and Safety Initiatives
Roblox's announcements arrive as gaming companies increasingly treat well-being and online safety as long-term platform responsibilities. The Entertainment Software Association’s (ESA) 2025 Global Power of Play Report was conducted by research firm AudienceNet in partnership with organizations that include Video Games Europe. The study surveyed 24,216 players across 21 countries and six continents and found that nearly two-thirds of players said gaming helps them build positive social connections, while 73% of players aged 16 to 35 said gaming reduced feelings of isolation.
Discord, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and Ninja Theory have each expanded mental health or online safety programs in recent years. Their initiatives combine moderation systems with educational tools, crisis support services, and broader community design changes.
Altogether, the pattern increasingly looks less like corporate responsibility messaging and more like an industry standard in formation.
