Highlights

  • Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed again, this time indefinitely from its "early 2026" window.
  • This is the second delay for the ambitious, narrative-driven WWII Marvel game.
  • Skydance stated the delay is to ensure the game meets its high-quality standards.

Skydance New Media is once again pushing the release of its highly anticipated superhero action-adventure, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. The game, which was last targeting an "early 2026" release window, has now been delayed indefinitely. In a statement on Thursday, November 6, the studio confirmed the game will not launch in that window and is now aiming for a release "beyond early 2026", with no new specific date provided.

This marks the second major delay for the ambitious project. Rise of Hydra was originally revealed with a 2025 release window before being pushed this past May to the "early 2026" slot. In its statement, Skydance Games noted the delay is necessary to "fully realize" their ambitious vision, meet high-quality standards, and "honor the characters and worlds" they are working with. The studio emphasized its goal is to "deliver unforgettable, premium games."

The delay announcement was notably timed, arriving on the same day as another high-profile industry shift. Skydance released its statement on Thursday just after Take-Two Interactive’s Rockstar Games revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 had also been further delayed, moving its launch window from May 2026 to November 2026.

An Ambitious WWII-Era Marvel Story

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a narrative-driven, single-player title set during World War II, taking players to locations including Nazi-occupied Paris and Wakanda. The project is led by industry veteran Amy Hennig, acclaimed for her work on the Uncharted series.

Players will control an ensemble cast of four characters: Steve Rogers as Captain America, Azzuri (the 1940s Black Panther and T'Challa's grandfather), Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy.

The news of the delay has raised some concern among fans, as no significant gameplay footage has been shown since a tech demo at the 2024 Game Developers Conference. Amid speculation that the delay is for extra polish or to expand the game's scope, the developer offered a message of reassurance.

Skydance expressed gratitude to the "passionate global community" for their support and pledged to continue working hard to deliver "something truly special".
