SEGA has officially confirmed that Sonic Rumble, its new 32-player party battle royale game, will launch globally in November 2025. The free-to-play title is set for release on PC via Steam, as well as on mobile for both iOS and Android devices. SEGA announced the launch window alongside a new trailer. Pre-registration for the game is now open on all platforms.
Sonic Rumble drops 32 players into a chaotic toy world created by Dr Eggman, where they compete as toy versions of iconic characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow.
Developed by Sonic Team in collaboration with Rovio Entertainment, the studio famous for Angry Birds, the game features a knockout format. Players will compete in fast-paced platforming and survival-based challenges until only eight finalists remain to battle for the top spot.
What to expect from Sonic Rumble
The game is set to launch with several competitive modes, including Run, Survival, and Ring Battle. Players can also form four-person squads to compete globally.
The new trailer revealed fresh gameplay mechanics, including "obstructive skills" to use against opponents and friend-based "Crews" for participating in timed events to earn special rewards. New stages and modes were also showcased.
This announcement follows a series of delays for the title, which was first announced in May 2024. The game was previously postponed from a winter release to spring 2025 and then delayed indefinitely just one week before its rescheduled May launch.
According to the developers, the extra time was used to refine gameplay, improve multiplayer mechanics, and optimize the game's performance, particularly for mid-tier mobile devices. Alongside the new features, the developers stated that the game's progression and reward systems have been "overhauled".
This includes making it easier for players to unlock cosmetics and abilities through expanded ranks and simplified achievements. Sonic Rumble will also feature extensive customisation options, allowing players to unlock various skins, animations, and effects for their characters.
