PlayStation gamers, your wait to explore the Settled Systems is almost over. According to a leak from a reliable industry insider, Billbil-kun, Bethesda’s sweeping sci-fi RPG, Starfield PS5, is finally making its way to the PlayStation 5 next month, on April 7, 2026. Arriving roughly two-and-a-half years after its Xbox and PC debut, the game will reportedly feature a surprisingly budget-friendly price tag and will be available in both physical and digital formats on launch day.

If the information published via the French outlet Dealabs holds true, Xbox's former console exclusive is taking an aggressive approach to win over the PS5 crowd. The Standard Edition will reportedly cost €49.99 / $54.99 or £44.99, while the Premium Edition will run you €69.99 / $74.99 or £59.99. This makes the Starfield PS5 version noticeably cheaper than Starfield's original launch prices on Steam and Xbox (~$69.99 standard), suggesting a broader price cut across all platforms might be on the horizon.

Pre-orders are expected to go live later this month, likely around March 17 or March 18. Just keep in mind that, unlike the original release, the PS5 Premium Edition won't include an early access period, meaning the entire player base launches into space on the exact same day, as per IGN.

New Starfield Updates and Space Gameplay Improvements

The move to PlayStation comes right as Bethesda is preparing some major updates for the game, though fans should keep their expectations in check. Bethesda boss Todd Howard recently confirmed that while significant new content is coming "soonish," this won't be a massive "Starfield 2.0" overhaul. Instead, Howard explained that the upcoming updates will change the game in "meta" ways, specifically utilizing outer space in ways the studio hasn't before.

He candidly noted that if you found the game boring initially, this update probably won't change your mind, but players who already love Starfield are going to love what's next. Veteran Bethesda developer Tim Lamb echoed this sentiment, confirming that the studio has been actively working on making space gameplay much more rewarding.

Recent datamines have uncovered code suggesting a more streamlined space travel experience. While this likely won't feature the fully fluid transitions between planet and orbit seen in games like No Man’s Sky, it points toward a much smoother journey through the stars.

Tim Lamb has also promised that a suite of free updates, highly requested community features, and a brand-new DLC story are all currently in development to enhance the player experience.

Microsoft's Cross-Platform Shift and Starfield's Future

Bringing Starfield to the massive PS5 install base marks a major shift for Microsoft's cross-platform strategy, but it makes sense given the game's bumpy journey. Despite reaching 15 million players since its September 2023 launch, Starfield's reception has been mixed, with its first expansion, Shattered Space, sitting at a 'mostly negative' rating on Steam

Pushing the PS5 port and the second expansion to 2026 seems to be Bethesda's way of taking the time to refine the experience. While we wait for an official announcement from Microsoft or Sony to confirm this leak, billbil-kun's stellar track record means PlayStation fans should probably start dusting off their spacesuits.
