Highlights

  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has crossed 65M cumulative sales since its launch in 2015.
  • CD Projekt reported 191M PLN ($53.48M) in Q1 2026 revenues, up 6% year over year, with net earnings of 106M PLN ($29.68M)
  • The Cyberpunk 2077 Trading Card Game raised $28M on Kickstarter, becoming the most funded game campaign in the platform's history

Over a decade after it launched, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still selling well. CD Projekt confirmed in its Q1 2026 earnings report published May 28 that the game has now crossed 65M cumulative copies sold, a milestone that puts it among the best-selling PC and console titles ever made. Alongside that announcement came news of a third full expansion for The Witcher 3, which is in development and will launch in 2027.

The expansion, titled Songs of the Past, is being co-developed with Fool's Theory, the studio that handled the Witcher 3 next-gen update. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the project is at an advanced stage of development. He said, "The return of Geralt after more than one decade will be an excellent adventure, and a trip down memory lane, before we pass the baton to Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4.”

The Witcher 3 Continues to Generate Substantial Revenue

The Witcher 3 already shipped with two substantial expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, both of which received positive reviews from critics and fans alike. A third expansion arriving over a decade after launch is unusual by any measure, and CD Projekt is clearly positioning it as a bridge between the existing audience and the incoming one that The Witcher 4 will bring. Nowakowski noted that Songs of the Past could serve as a first entry point into the Witcher universe for players who have not yet played any of the games, a smart framing given that The Witcher 4 will shift the protagonist from Geralt to Ciri.

The 65M sales figure also contextualizes why CD Projekt keeps returning to The Witcher 3 rather than letting it retire. The studio added Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition to Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate in Q1 2026, and pushed a new Cyberpunk 2077 update optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro in April. Older games on subscription platforms and updated for new hardware are, for CD Projekt, still active commercial products that bring in revenue.

CD Projekt Red’s Q1 Numbers

CD Projekt's Q1 2026 financials were solid, with the studio reporting revenues of 191M PLN ($53.48M), up 6% compared to the same period last year. Consolidated net earnings came in at 106M PLN ($29.68M). CFO Piotr Nielubowicz attributed the revenue performance primarily to continued strong sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, alongside their inclusion in Xbox Game Pass Premium.

Cash reserves at the end of March stood at 1.4 billion PLN ($392M), which Nielubowicz described as a foundation for intensifying parallel development across several unannounced projects. CD Projekt has been transparent about the fact that investment in development is increasing each quarter, which will put pressure on earnings as The Witcher 4 and other projects move deeper into production.

The other headline from Q1 was the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game, co-developed with WeirdCo, which raised $28M on Kickstarter. That makes it the most funded game campaign in Kickstarter's history and the third most funded project on the platform across all categories. It is a striking number for a card game, and a fairly clear signal of how deep the Cyberpunk 2077 fanbase runs even years after the game's launch.
