Ubisoft Reportedly Using Far Cry 7 for AI Tests
Ubisoft allegedly tests AI in Far Cry 7 amid record losses and player backlash.
Highlights
- Ubisoft is reportedly testing GenAI systems in early Far Cry 7 builds.
- The AI push comes as Ubisoft faces a €1.3B (~$1.51B) operating loss and major job cuts.
- Ubisoft’s “Teammates” project focuses on real-time conversational NPC technology.
Ubisoft is reportedly using early builds of Far Cry 7 to test generative AI systems. The experiments come as the company faces a record €1.3 billion (~$1.51 billion USD) operating loss.
The reports originated from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who wrote on X that Ubisoft had been experimenting with AI prompts in Far Cry 7 and that the current results were in poor shape. Henderson later deleted the original post but clarified that the technology is being tested for “research and development” rather than confirmed implementation in the final game.
Ubisoft Doubles Down on AI After Major Losses
The reported testing comes shortly after Ubisoft’s 2025-26 earnings report revealed a 17% drop in net bookings to €1.53B (~$1.78B). The report also confirmed seven canceled projects, six delays, and around 1.2K job cuts. However, an approximate €1.16B (~$1.35B) Tencent transaction helped stabilize the company’s finances, though Ubisoft warned investors the next fiscal year would remain difficult for free cash flow.
Despite the downturn, Ubisoft confirmed it is accelerating investments in GenAI for quality assurance (QA) systems, development tools, and interactive non-player character (NPC) technology.

One of the company’s central AI initiatives is “Teammates,” an experimental project developed by Ubisoft La Forge using Google Gemini. The system aims to create conversational NPC companions that can respond in real time and remember player interactions.
Ubisoft has previously showcased similar AI-driven NPC technology at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) using tools from Nvidia and Inworld AI.
The push has triggered skepticism among players and investors, with some comparing it to Ubisoft’s abandoned Quartz NFT initiative from 2021. Earlier in 2026, the company’s stock reportedly fell 34% in a single day following announcements tied to expanded AI investment.
