  • Over 5M pre-registrations worldwide, ahead of Nov 14, 2025 launch.
  • Features 20+ regions, 10,000+ NPCs, and 40+ Martial Mystic Arts.
  • Historical Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms setting with wuxia fantasy elements.

This year's one of the most awaited action-RPG games, Where Winds Meet, has already crossed over 5 million pre-registrations globally, displaying a clear signal of high expectations from the gaming community.

The achievement arrived approximately a month before its launch, which is slated for November 14, 2025. The game is already very popular in China, its home market. PocketGamers.biz reports that, since its December 2024 release, the game in the Dragon country, has surpassed "30M registered players across mobile, PC, and console by March 2025."

Where Winds Meet will be available to play on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows), with a mobile version currently under development.

What Do We Know About ‘Where Winds Meet’ Gameplay?

The game, Where Winds Meet, had already undergone multiple closed beta tests with a final test done on July 25, 2025, to check for global readiness. The game features "over 20 distinct regions" to look out for, including imperial cities, ghost markets, and wilderness terrain.

It contains over 10,000 unique NPCs, each with its own personality and individual reactions to the player's activities. Based on how players interact with them, these individuals can either become loyal companions or sworn opponents.

The players of this game can gain "over 40 Martial Mystic Arts" via exploration and encounters. Plus, the narrative is set in a historical, Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, time period of China. This enables the players to experience cultural authenticity as well as wuxia and xuanhuan-like fantasy elements.

Post-launch, the game intends to adopt a free-to-play business model with in-game purchases that are optional in nature.

Why can the Game Be a Great Success?

With such tremendous pre-registration success and a strong fantasy base, Where Winds Meet could set sail for a bigger success. The craze for East Asian fantasy was already very popular in various media, and the wuxia (swords-and-martial-arts), xuanhuan-like backdrop of the game, strengthened the global potential of the game. As per Statista, xuanhuan had the largest share of mobile-game revenue in 2023.

The narrative pattern of the game, which many people are already familiar with from Chinese historical/fantasy dramas, can be one of the biggest reasons for its success. The Chinese micro, or short drama market that includes various historical, wuxia, xuanhuan, fantasy, and period-style content, peaked at about CN¥ 50.44 billion (~$6.9B USD) in 2024. It increased by around 34.9% compared to the previous year, topping domestic film box-office income for the first time.

Where Winds Meet can be compared to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Ghost of Tsushima (both based in ancient Japan) for its timing-based fighting, cinematic wuxia-like element, and historical-fantasy world design. Coupled with the huge success of Black Myth: Wukong, which sold over 10M copies in three days and 25M units worldwide, it is indicative that the wave of high-end East Asian/Eastern Fantasy games is rising, making a serious global impact.
